Exchange accounts are an issue as Apple released an update, but I had a different cause to my battery woes.

I disabled all options under Settings|General|Restrictions|Location Services|System Services and my battery went from dropping 10% per hour to 10% in the last 2 1/2 hours with pretty heavy usage.

I don't know the impact of turning all of these off, and there's not enough evidence that this is the final fix, but much improved battery performance since trying this out.

Since I update from the IOS 5.1 to IOS 6.0, 6.1, 6.1.1, the battery become worse and worse, in the past for one night it loss battary thn 5%, however now it is already over 30% for one night.

Some time when I go out for something urgent business and my battary is around 50%, I need to work on the Google maps, We chat, QQ, etc, but just 1 hour, it will finish, but I still not find the right way just get lost no where 😟

My only hope is could you find a way to go back to IOS 5.1?

If in future the battary contiunes like this, I will never consider IPHONE any more!!!

I am on 6.1.2 since yesterday afternoon. Charged it to 100%

Since then

Usage : 5 hours , 45 minutes

Standby : 15 hours, 4 minutes

and battery 19 % left

apps that i used : heavy whatsapp usage , medium tune in usage and a little bit of safari and downloading apps from the app store.

I did a fresh install of 6.1.2. I was previously on 6.1.1

is this good ? Im not sure

Would also like to chime in with DO NOT INSTALL THE UPDATE!

I wrote previously about how updating to 6.1. Had killed my iPhone 4 and iPad 2. Eventually the Genius Bar swapped boh devices for new and my problem was solved, I didn't update them from the factory software of 5.(whatever it was) and just ignored all updates. Stupidly when syncing my iPad it said that 6.2 was available and was a bug fix for battery drain issues so I updated. BIG MISTAKE! I'm not a heavy user and would get about 3 days of standby and a few hours of sporadic use, I'm now only getting about 18hrs of standby, which is cut down more if I dare use it! Luckily I didn't do my phone, so am getting my 2-3 days of standby.

So disappointed in Apple! This bug fix has BROKEN my device. Am gonna give it a week or so and if it's not resolved I'm going to try and get another replacement, and this time, I will NOT update!

I installed iOS 6.1.3 a couple of days back and my iPhone began heating up like crazy and started running out of charge in under 4 hours. Realizing something was wrong I tried Apple care as well as the Genius bar, both to no avail. Both had very helpful people, but the diagnosis was incomplete and didn't solve my problem. The Genius at the Apple store thought that my phone was having a charging issue, which wasn't the case and he offered to give me another phone (for $149) which should solve my problem. Ofcourse I didn't want to take that because I'm eligible for an upgrade and could buy an iPhone 5 for about the same amount.

Symptoms:

1. Phone was heating up un-normally.

2. Battery lasted for < 4 hours without any apps open.

3. Standby time and Usage time were pretty much almost equal (~4 hours).

Anyway, I did a little bit of poking around on the phone and found that the cause of all the problems atleast for me was that the "dataaccessd" daemon was crashing over and over again. This is the daemon that manages keeping data in sync between the phone and web-servers such as iCloud or Google's exchange servers. I think Apple may have modified how this data exchange is done to improve sync with iCloud, but this may have resulted in it crashing on my phone when talking to other exchange servers.

Now, this made sense - if the dataaccessd process keeps re-spawning, trying to access the internet to get to the exchange servers and crashing, the phone will have high CPU usage and possibly RF-usage since it is trying to get data accross to start failed syncs. I tried disabling all syncs first and found that this appeared to be helping the phone run a little cooler over a few minutes. I re-enabled iCloud and it seemed like this didn't make the phone consume more power. So I let the phone charge completely once again and used it like I normally do.

Right now as I write this the phone battery is still at 77% usage after 17 hours - Usage 2 hours, 15 mins; Standby 17 hours, 11 mins. Which means - this solves the power usage issue (atleast for me).

I'm guessing most of us are probably having the same issue. To do this:

1. Go to "Settings" -> "Mail, Contacts, Calendars".

2. Under "Accounts" turn off "Calendars" for everything other than iCloud. Do this especially for Gmail accounts.

This should fix power consumption issues.

Unfortunately this doesn't solve the root cause of the problem which appears to lie in iOS 6.1.3. Apple needs to release a fix for that soon - I do rely a lot on my Gmail calendars and this is inconvenient. That being said though, there are times when even Apple is going to slip up. I just hope they manage to fix this issue soon and are more careful with testing iOS updates before releasing them.

I've been having this issue on and off with my iPhone 3GS (32GB) since upgrading to iOS 6. It mostly behaves normally and then sometimes gets stuck in battery-melting mode. I have been unable to find out what the problem is, it drains the battery even when in airplane mode, and killing all processes and even rebooting the phone doesn't work. The last time it did this I discovered one app that was not updating properly and seemed to be stuck in mid-download; I deleted it and the phone went back to normal. But if it doesn't stop this, and Apple can't even be bothered responding to this, I'll have to go back to iOS 5.
