how can i delete downloaded ios update from iphone settings/general/software update

I use iPhone 4 with ios 5.1.1.

I dont want to upgrade.

Somehow when the new ios 6.0.1 update is out with OTA support, the phone automatically download the software from wifi. Dont ask what i want to do! Its not fair!

I dont want upgrade! Why download without ask me? -800MB steal from memory!!! And cant delete! Hang on this in the phone unnecessary.

The old 6.0 dont download automatically! Fix it!

How to delete?

Wow, and I thought I was going crazy....

My iPhone 4 running 5.1.1 now also suddenly reflects that iOS 6.0.1 has been downloaded and that it is ready to be installed whereas iOS 6 reflected "Download and Install".I do not want to upgrade the iPhone 4 to iOS6. Firstly because I'm not convinced that the A4 processor can handle iOS6 and not slow the phone down, secondly because I am not prepared to go without the YouTube app (I don't want the crappy official add ridden app) and lastly because I need reliable maps where freeways are not buckling and where buildings are not in the wrong places.

I have been using iOS devises for years. I know that I did NOT initiate this download. Now I am sitting with a file of over 600mb taking up precious space on a 16GB phone. It there no way to delete this file from my phone?

What reason could Apple have to try and force me to install iOS6? Well I've got news for them. I will NOT install the update.....

I stumbled across this thread looking for information on how to delete the iOS 6 update that downloaded but was not installed. I too never asked the software to download on either my iPad 2 or iPhone 4S. It just decided to download it, set the badge to "1" and tell me to "click to install". The iPad 2 downloaded iOS 6 almost as soon as it was available but the iPhone 4S waiting until 6.0.1 came out before it took it upon itself to do the download. All I can say that isn't happening on the iPhone 4S until there is a Google Maps application (I already downloaded the YouTube app). On the iPad 2, I need to see a native Google Maps app and a native YouTube app. The new Google YouTube app works well but since it is an iPhone app, it runs small screen.

As for A4 performance, I have an iPod Touch 4 that I did upgrade to iOS 6 so that I could at least get a feel for it (and also see how annoying iOS is without Google Maps). I can say from a purely subjective view, the iPod Touch 4 seems to be a bit more responsive than it was under iOS 5.1.1. The little A4 really seemed to struggle under iOS 5 and keyboard responsiveness was very poor. Under iOS 6, responsiveness appears snappier. It isn't as quick as iOS 4 was but it is better than iOS 5 (IMHO).

Well here we go again....

Got an e-mail on Friday morning from my ISP that 936mb of my allocated 1GB was used up on the first of the month.

Once again my iPhone 4 took it upon itself to download iOS 6.1 all by itself. I am not an idiot and knows how iOS works. I did NOT initiate the download. According to my ISP the download started at 4 AM, when I was sound asleep. So now I am sitting with two iOS updates taking up almost 2GB on my 16GB phone and I cannot delete them! Well, we South Africans are a crafty bunch. Apple will NOT pull this crap again. I have simply filled up my phone with music, video's and apps until there was only 800mb of space left and will be doing the same with my other iOS devises. There will therefore simply not be enough space to download another update.

Has Apple turned into Google? They are sure doing a good imitation. Can't tell you how many times Google Chrome was installed on my PC and set as the default browser without my consent.

Or is this all about stats so that Apple can boast about the number of users on iOS 6? iOS 6 might be the version of iOS that saw the quickest download rate, but is it because Apple initialized the download?

I am not happy at all....
