Hello

The documentation says that FCPX supports HDV.

I have several HDV files which when I try to import them, they are greyed out and FCPX says they are not supported.

But there is nothing wrong with the files on a PC in CS4 they work fine.

Any hints. Thanks

Got it and installed MPEG Streamclip thanks. First off I notice that to keep the proper proportions of the image I need to choose 1920 x 1080 although my original file is 1440 x 1080.

I set MPEG Streamclip output to high quality. It seems it will take at least as long as the film to process = 16 x 1 hour. There is no batch function or parallel processing unlike Xilisoft.

As an aside, the sound and image are out of sync in the files generated with Xilisoft export HDV to HD MOV on the PC. First time I ran so many large files with Xilisoft.

I still need to complain to Apple that their doc is misleading suggesting that HDV can be imported directly. They updated the look of the importer in the last update but its just look and feel. All this conversion takes a lot of time and not always succesful.

Thank you thank you.

I recorded at 1440 x 1080 16:9 but MPEG Streamclip offers 1440 x 1080 4:3 or 1920 x 1080 16:9 but at 1440 x 1080 4:3 the image is squashed.

So I went for 1920 x 1080 at 100% quality and got a 85 Gb file from a 11 Gb HDV file. Why so big? I will try at 50% quality but why should I need to?

P.S. What is a data break?
