'Valid Apple ID but not an Icloud account

I have downloaded iCloud onto my PC and when I try to sign in the following message appears 'This is a valid Apple ID but not an iCloud account.' What can I do? Thanks.

This one actually annoys me too. Apple tends to do "bundleware", like most companies, so, if you install iTunes, then you also get ICloud, unless you tell it otherwise. Only.. I don't have a iPad, an iTouch, or any of the "newer" devices, just a Classic. Why? Because I don't need all the extra functionality, I just want to bloody play music, and some video that I either bought, or converted to go on it. A while back, even having the thing installed caused chaos with one game client I used, until they eventually changed its memory management method (which was somehow conflicting with.. who knows what.. some DRM thing in it maybe..)

Anyway, its installed, I keep getting notices about a) updating it, and if I removed it, then it would still come up as a "default" option to install with the next version of iTunes, etc., yet.. because it only works with those things I don't bloody own, and don't plan to, I can't log into it, and its just taking up space on my machine, apparently...

Yeah, not a real fan of some of this annoying stuff I have to deal with, just to use an ipod (not the least being the absurd issue of them not allowing "backup" of content you load yourself, so you, if, say.. your machine crashed, you can't "restore" a new iPod to include all the stuff on the old one. Well, not and auto-update it with the original list. You have to do it manually, otherwise it wipes everything else on it, and well.. you know the drill, if you ever had non-apple content on one of these things...)

Guess I try to work out how to the thing off my machine, and keep it off.

iCloud (if you have it) can be removed using the standard Windows removal procedure found in (Control Panel>Programs and Features>Uninstall Programs)

I did, as soon as I got done posting. Been running into a lot of this though, even my bloody virus scanner insists on including the option to "set your browser to use our search and install a toolbar!" Now, if I am doing it, fine, if my dad is the one updating something, pretty soon you have 15 toolbars, and as many programs fighting over which one has the "search engine" set to.

Apple isn't as bad as some, but the default assumption is a) the user knows what they are installing, and b) its useful to them. The first one just isn't true at all, and the second one depends on what devices they have, if any. And, as people who, supposedly, care about interfaces and usability, making the first assumption, never mind the second one, without having them plug it in, to find out, is.. just a really poor assumption, usability wise.

So people here seem to be saying we have to use a Mac or iPhone or other Apple device in order to use ICloud on a PC? Where does it say that before you go through (1) downloading and installing the ICloud software on your PC, and (2) setting up an Apple ID, including giving them your birthday, address, etc.?

It's not at all unreasonable for Apple to make this available to their money customers only, but if that is the case, then it is EXTREMELY unreasonable for Apple not to make that clear up front.

This annoys the crap out of me. Clearly it bundled on my laptop with iTunes. But I get constant reminders on my android phone to use iCloud. I decided to give it a go just to find it was a waste of time. I'm surprised I am able to use iTunes tbh. But I guess that's a way Apple is hoping to make some money of me purchasing music etc. iCloud would be a free service with I'm assuming no profits from users for Apple so its only ios users who can access it. Just another reason I dislike all things Apple .
