I am connected to the hotel wifi network, but the login screen does not appear.

I am connected to my hotel wifi network, but the login screen does not appear. I am able to access the login page on my PC, but on the iPhone it does not appear and just tries to connect to the webpage (e.g. google.co.uk), and eventually gives up. I've tried opening pages in Safari and Chrome, but none cause the login screen to appear. I have also tried trying to log into the login page that the PC opens when connected to the wifi, but the same thing happens. I am using a iPhone 3G with the latest iOS version 6.0.1.


Is there a way to make the iPhone try to open the login page?

Just a heads up from the other side. I worked tier 2, now working tier 3, support for hotel wifi networks. The most common issues I encounter:


1.) Navigating to HTTPS sites. THIS IS THE MAIN KILLER. HTTPS sites are secure, and their are still plenty of network devices that do not redirect this properly. Navigate to a HTTP site such as: captive.apple.com, www.CNN.com, www.purple.com; this will trigger the redirect to the portal page.


2.) DO NOT USE APPS. its hard to believe, but Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat.....these all use HTTPS sites. Going to the app, and expecting to be redirected just wont work. Use your browser, and follow the above suggestion.


3.) Turn off your data!!! Most devices, regardless of vendor, will eventually experience issues maintaining multiple connections. You can mitigate this by remembering to only use 1 connection. If it is wifi, shut off cellular data.


4.) Work devices. Makes sure you do not have a static IP address set on the device. If you do not know, ask your work IT guys. You might get lucky here, and their; but do not count on it everywhere. Someday your 192.168.x.x device will meet my 10.10.x.x network, and it will waste ALOT of your time.

My problem was fixed after performing the following steps:


1. kill Safari app

2. enter Settings -> Safari

3. disable Block Pop-ups and Fraudulent Website Warning (for some weird reason)

4. Forget the hotel wifi network and add it again

5. Open Safari


NOTE: after successfully connecting remember to enable Block Pop-ups and Fraudulent Website Warning.

I work at a hotel and this happens to me daily. My fix is to open an incognito tab in my browser and type anything in the url bar. This will force a redirect, but before the login page pops up, it may prompt that you are trying to "visit an unsafe site." At this point you can either view the certificate, or you can select visit the site anyways. You should choose to visit the site anyways, then the hotel login will open. Cheers!

Tried everything in the thread. Finally I decided to call the hotel and ask for their IT department (Marriott). They asked for my WiFi MAC address on my iPhone 6, deleted me on their network, reset the firewall, and boom-worked. They told me this happens from time to time - no explanation and suggested it's the network not the phone. So you may want to simply go that route and speak to their I IT folks.

Just an FYI for anyone having this problem... You can fix it by manually typing a new web address in the browser. That will force a reset. If you were trying to get to google.com and couldn't get to the hotel/cafe network login screen, in the address bar, type www.apple.com. This should force a reset of any cache and bring you to the hotel's login screen for authentication. Cheers, Tim.

If you have the BOINGO WI-FI FINDER app installed, uninstall it.


The app doesn't work and breaks the login for a lot of free wi-fi services.


You'll know this is the problem if you pick the hotel Wi-Fi network and shortly thereafter the red bar saying "Boingo Wi-Fi available here" pops down from the top of the screen, and yet the login screen never occurs so the little wi-fi icon (waves) never appears in the top left corner.


And no, switching to the Boingo app won't get you connected either. I already knew it was a piece of crap since its never worked to connect me to any networks at airports or otherwise and I'd said as much in my review. Didn't realize yet (or maybe they made the app worse recently?) that it would break existing free Wi-Fi networks you had no trouble logging into without it installed. \


Anyway, try this.
