I am connected to the hotel wifi network, but the login screen does not appear.

Hi,

I am connected to my hotel wifi network, but the login screen does not appear. I am able to access the login page on my PC, but on the iPhone it does not appear and just tries to connect to the webpage (e.g. google.co.uk), and eventually gives up. I've tried opening pages in Safari and Chrome, but none cause the login screen to appear. I have also tried trying to log into the login page that the PC opens when connected to the wifi, but the same thing happens. I am using a iPhone 3G with the latest iOS version 6.0.1.

Is there a way to make the iPhone try to open the login page?

Ben.

I have an iPhone 7plus and it does this at work. EVERY SINGLE DAY. I have saved off a series of hyperlinks in a note that I click on to get the login page to show. Seems to do the trick every time. Just need to click one of them.

I have been having this same problem in several different hotels. Clearly it is my phone - my wife and son have the exact same model iphone (4G) and they are not having any wifi problems - even in the same room, same hotel.

Sometimes the wifi works fine for 1-2 days, then it stops bringing up the login screen when I reconnect. I have tried all the suggested tricks - open Safari, forget the network, renew lease, reset network settings. It appears to be connecting to the wifi but permission to access the internet is blocked because the login screen never appears.

I have the exact same problem as the original poster and I tried many times already the solution proposed by trstark66 and it's still not working. It's not working for both my iPad and iPhone 5. I'm using the latest iOS version available all the time. I have my iPad since 3 years and my iPhone since 1 years and I always had that problem. I'm an airline pilot so I'm always in hotels. I asked my colleagues who also have iPhones and iPads and they all have the same problems from time to time. And when I go in an apple store they all say that it's the first time they hear about that problem. I never have that problem with my PCs, my previous phone and my BB playbook. Only with my iPhone and iPad....since now 3 years...Always the same problem. I'm connected to the Hotel Network, I have an IP address but nothing popup to register with a user name, password or just to access the "I have read and accept the condition.../connect". And when I go in Safari or other Browsers, I am not redirected to a login page. All I have is a message saying cannot access the webpage because I'm not connected to Internet. I tried already hard resets, on/off Wi-Fi, automatic connexion off, forget this network, reset network setting...

My solution for now is to use my Boingo account. I connect to the hotel Network and then I use the Boingo app to connect to Internet.

But, sometimes it works the first time or suddenly for no reason.

Very funny, I was using Boingo on my ipad to write this message in my Hotel room because I was unable to use my free connection as usual. When I tried to press "Add Reply" it failed and I had the message "An error occured while trying to submit your post, please try again". The reason was that boingo was disconnected since I was taking too long to write this message. So I wasn't connected to Internet anymore. I opened a second tab in Safari and what did I see!... the login page to access the free connection from the hotel. This is crazy. Apple, you really suck with hotel/coffee hotspots... I tried for hours and nothing, now hours later I just open a new tab and it works. But tomorrow I know I will try the same and it will not work again. It shouldn't be that complicated.

PinballLes

I was having the exact same problem as the original poster. I followed trstark66's advice and it worked perfectly. The only thing I did differently was make sure that typed the full URL, as in http://www.apple.com, as opposed to just apple.com

Thanks trstark66!

I was also having this problem. Usually the first time I logged into a hotel of airport network my iPhone 5 would bring up the log in page and all would go well. But when I tried to connect to the network a secound time (the next day, hour whatever) my phone would not pull up the log in page. Like PinballLes I put in http://www.apple.com which brought me to the apple page (probably in my browsing history somewhere) then I opened a new tab and that brought me to the login page. I am not sure why this workaround works.. but at least it did. It is deffinitly something that apple needs to fix.

@razmee209, this is the problem. The phone does not take me to the login screen.

@Peter Gillespie, I spoke the hotel reception in the morning and they told me to try it on a different browser. I tried on Chrome and the login screen still doesn't appear. I mentioned in my original post that I can get to the login screen on my PC, so I understand how their service works.

Ok, thanks, that's one thing that I didn't try yet ...but, we shouldn't have to do that.

This morning I was in Glasgow, I had problem logging in my hotel room, had problem at GLA airport, but ok in the British Airways lounge, than problem again in LGW airport during my connexion and now I'm in Lisbon and it's working fine. So frustrating and Apple is just simply denying de problem...

Has anybody had any luck with this issue? I am travelling in Mexico and my iphone worked with the hotel wireless pretty well until this weekend. I can log in at times but not access the internet. I am using a PC running Windows and can still login fine. I got in touch with Apple Support and they said to reset the network in the phone, which I did, and to go somewhere else and try it. They suggested having the hotel turn off / on their routers, etc.. (really ridiculous).

Anyway, I would like to know if there is a solution. This is a problem with Apple. Folks travelling with me are using Android devices (which I will soon be buying) and a variety of laptops (Mac & MIcroosoft) with no issues. I have this stupid iphone 5s which I got because they are meant to be the rage and now affectionately call it my i-brick.

Let me know what anybody hear's from Apple.

If you have iPass like I do (or, I assume, similar services like Boingo), you have to open the iPass App on your iPhone, open Settings in the iPass app, then open "Manual Login Settings". Then enter the network name (SSID) of any networks that you not want oPass Open Mobile to log in to (e.g. Hyatt). This stops iPass from trying to log in to the hotel network, which is what is blocking the hotel's wifi we page from appearing. This solved it for me.

Hi, I have had the same problem in this hotel. What I did to fix it.

1) logged in the hotel wifi with my laptop

2) checked the address of the login screen. In this hotel https://controller.mobile.lan/102/portal/

3) opened Safari and ensured it went to the above address. I got the required login screen and could log in with the phone. My phone is an iPhone 5 16Gb

Thanks for the solution even I tried to disable my Cellular data and turn on only WIFI and see if it works.

I travel a lot and I do stay in Hotels in the week days. I use Iphone 5S with the latest OS updated. Almost from past 6 to 7 months I face issues with connecting to my Internet when ever I am back to hotel . My iphoen detects the Wifi connection initially and I am able to see the the WIFI symbol on my home screen. But when I try to open any APP or try to make a call thru Facetime ..Its a big heck again ..connection drops of in between an d says network error and mu iphone tries to connect thru LTE network . It keeps switching between Hotel WIFI & LTE or 4G networks , which is really weird and calls drop off sometims due to poor connection . I also make an appointment with the Apple Care and tried to explain them the issue .They say its nothing to do with Iphone .When the APPle support team connected to the WIFI in APPLE care it works fine . But not sure why I face this issue when ever I try to connect to the Hotel WIFI . It works fine when I am home.

finally I gave up thought that this problem is restricted to me and started using cellular data . but when I search for the solution on the Internet many people keep complaining with the same issue. I believe strongly that there is some issue with the Network settings of an Iphone as this is not intended to a specific person or location as such . There should be some fix given on this issue .

Another possible solution for situations where you can connect to a captive network (ie. hotel) wifi router, but you do not get a log-in screen.

1. Connect to the wifi router.

2. Quickly, before you are disconnected from the router, tap the 'I' next to the connected station in your wifi pane.

3. Turn off Auto-join and Auto-login

That did it for me. As soon as I tuned those off, the login screen came up. If you were not quite quick enough and got disconnected, try connecting again.

I am connected to the hotel wifi network, but the login screen does not appear.
