iPhone 5 sleep/wake button not working

I've had my iPhone 5 since launch day and have had no problems up until about a week ago. It's one of my most prized possessions (along with all my other Apple products) so I've been super careful with it, and have never dropped the phone. However, the sleep/wake button is very unresponsive. It's fine when pushing on the left most side of the button, but the rest to the right is completely unresposive. Any ideas as to how I go about fixing this?

Thanks.

Bring it to Apple. If defective, it will be replaced.

Just exchanged my iPhone5 today. It turns out, there is a spring underneath the sleep/wake button that can become misaligned or be misaligned during the assembly process. My sleep/wake button would ALWAYS work when pressed on the left side of the button but NEVER work when the right side of the button was pressed. This is a repair that cannot be accomplished in the store and they will replace your device. Problem solved!

My iPhone5 had the same issues over the last month. I thought it was the case not pushing the wake sleep button down, but discovered it was the sleep wake button itself. Make an appointment at the Apple Store in Metairie, Louisiana and they were able to duplicate the intermittent problem. The button was hard to push down on the right side, easy on the left...but still would not sleep or wake properly out of the case. Apple swapped my defective iPhone5 for new.

On an interesting note, my microphone is working better when talking over the phone. Apparently my old iPhone was not as clear as this new one.

If you are considering taking your phone in to swap out, consider using the Cloud to back up you phone instead of iTunes. All of your settings, data, backgrounds and everything reinstall just as you had left it on your old iPhone.

To top it all off, Apple could not have been any nicer during this experience. And for that, I thank them.

Same exact issue (left side more responsive, right side not so). Sounds like a common defect. Called their tech support then scheduled an appointment with the Genius Bar since I'm under manufacturer's warranty. Hopefully they'll give me a new one!

(Hopefully they'll switch my color to black. White was a good change, but black's better.)
