iPhone 5 sleep/wake button not working

I've had my iPhone 5 since launch day and have had no problems up until about a week ago. It's one of my most prized possessions (along with all my other Apple products) so I've been super careful with it, and have never dropped the phone. However, the sleep/wake button is very unresponsive. It's fine when pushing on the left most side of the button, but the rest to the right is completely unresposive. Any ideas as to how I go about fixing this?

Thanks.

Bring it to Apple. If defective, it will be replaced.

I purchased it Germany, and yes there is not any international waranty. The warranty valid only in Germany, is it logical? I send it to USA Apple Store and they did nothing becouse of this. I will try to fix it with my money in a not autorized service in Turkey It coast me 100 usd or more, but its the hardware problem not my fault, very funny..

I have the same issues with the sleep/awake bottun. Sometimes I have to push it like 3 or 6 times to get it work, which is a problem when I am in a hurry. There's been times when the screen has not been blocked and the device has access to anything, like lunching a phone call. Now I wonder if they will replace it for a new one here in Mexico or else I'll have to send it in to Chicago, where I purchased it last Devcember. First time I have a Mac product giving me some problems though.

I am from Australia, and I was having the same issue with my iPhone. I thought that I was a 1 one off case, but I was recently out for a friends birthday, and started speaking to a mate that had the same issue. We then Googled it and found that it was a wide spread issue. So we teamed up and booked an appointment each at our local apple store, with in 15 mins we both walked out with new phones. The service in store was great but the fact they didn't really ask many questions and just Handed new phones to us both made me think this is a well recognized issue for Apple.

I dealt with this iPhone 5 issues for about four months until I couldn't take it anymore. Saw this thread, made an Apple Genius Bar appointment, and about two hours after reading this thread my phone was replaced by the Apple Genius without any hassels and not really any questions.

The replacement came in a very thin box. He said it was new and not a refurb, but just specific for warranty claims, replacements, etc.

I think Apple's customer service in this instance is 100%. I'm not sure that I could reasonably ask for anything more.

The phones they give you as a replacement are not new they are recycled and made from the phones they have had problems with!! The phone you left will be used for the good parts they can recycle and will be given to someone else I went mad after spending 699.00 on a phone that they are having problems with they should replace with new as far as I am concerned but under the apple limited warranty they don't have too

My replacement last 2 months gave me a tingle one night when I plugged it into the charger then never worked again so I'm on my third phone now!! Was promised a call back after I received my recycled replacement and a free gift to say sorry guess what never heard a thing!! Wouldn't class that as good customer service

I've had the same problem with two handsets now and apple just replaced it on both occasions for a new unit however I was under the impression that if the second unit malfunctioned I would be able to get a full refund. The Technician said that we won't be able to refund you the purchase price (£599.00) as it is not the original hand set. So if you have this problem it is likely that it will occur in a new handset if apple replace it for you and I would advise if it goes wrong the first time get a refund if you can.

Both me and my fiance had this issue and we just went to the Apple store this weekend to get it checked out. They did replace our phones (Apple Customer Service is AWESOME!) and advised us that the issue may have been due to our cases. We had both been using an Otterbox Commuter case when we first got our phones. After a few months in, I switched to a Lifeproof case and my fiance kept the Otterbox. The problem with his sleep/wake button intensified until it didn't work at all. Mine didn't get any worse after I changed it out (right side of the button didnt work but the left side did). The guys at the Apple store told us that the pressure you have to apply to any button on the iPhone is intensified by the case (you have to press harder in order to trigger the button) and that the buttons on the iPhone are meant to be gently depressed not jammed in. They said that the repeated increased pressure on the buttons likely caused the buttons to malfunction. They didn't discourage us from using cases becuase they understood the need for protection, however they did recommend taking advantage of the "assistive touch" features so that we wouldn't have to press the buttons all the time. Hope this helps!
