Hotmail won't launch from MSN Messenger in Safari

[ Edited by Apple Discussions Moderator; Please start a new topic about your technical issue. ]

I can no longer access my Hotmail account from MSN Messenger (V5.1.1). This has only happened since the latest update. When I click on the mail icon in Messenger Safari goes in to a spin. I eventually am asked for my Hotmail password then Safari goes in to another spin and I keep getting asked for my password. Other browsers (Camino and Opera) are OK. Any thoughts? Do we have to wait for another update?

Hi,Syd,

Cookies enabled to Always allows Safari users to properly log out of MSN
It is also the way it has worked for me without disruption, none.

Safari doesn't sign out of MSN, even though you click Sign Out

This may be obsolete, may not, not for me to say.I am just happy to be able to log out of msn.
( I'll probably dream of a million iron gates tonight let me out, let me in; )
Good Luck

Hi Eme,

I totally agree with you.. it's great to be able to sign out from MSN (and it works well with my currents accounts).

But, maybe it wasn't a clear enought question (xcuse my english, i mostly use french here...) but I would like to "survey", to ask the question to other users who experience the current "no login from msn messenger to hotmail account" problem. (beside, yes it is better to set the cookies to always as a good way to get out of MSN properly)

So now I'm asking: is anyone who having this problem (messenger to no hotmail inbox, just a "loop") can tell me if they experience this with all accounts ? Is a freshly created hotmail account still can't connect to hotmail from msn messenger link ? (with same config. of course and safari as default browser)

or is it me that is weirdly lucky... ?

Thanks !

Syd.

yeah, there has been some confusion here...it's not the complete logout of hotmail that's the problem, rather the inability to login to your account to begin with. in my case, it doesn't matter if i click the "mail" icon in msn messenger, or just type "www.hotmail.com" in the address bar...an endless loop in a safari browser window ensues (interupted by a sign-in screen here and there).

i've said this in a few different posts...i believe the problem is with the recent safari update versus anything related to cookie settings. you can get the universal binary for firefox to access hotmail (which incidentally has no issues with logging out of hotmail).

my hotmail account was created in 2000...does that mean it's an older account? if so, perhaps that is the problem!

I have had this problem for the last couple of days. It seems to have started after I loaded the new version of Java. Everything was fine before that update. The problem has only affected Safari from what I can tell. I do know that Hotmail requires Java Script. My guess is that the problem is related but I have not found a work around yet. Any suggestions would be welcome.

This was an Apple created issue with the latest java update. I have 2 macs and this started after I installed the java update on my PM. Went to my other mac and it still opened hotmail just fine from MSN. Did the latest java install package on it and now both are having the problem. Again it started just after installing the latest java update. So Apple needs to be notified about this and its thier fix to make.
