Why can't I access iCloud on my iPad?

Every time I try to get onto the cloud on my iPad 2, it tells me to set up an account--I already have one. I use the cloud every Amy on my computer!

iPad 2, iOS 5.0.1

Are you signed into your iCloud? Even when it asks you to set up an account there should be a space where it says log-in. Go to Settings > iCloud and enter your apple ID and password and it should sign you right in.

DO yourself a favor and save yourself from migraine headaches purchase a device that allows you to access cloud services like Samsung does. I have had My iPad for less than a week, can not access cloud files from my iPad. If you like twenty year old technology keep your iPad, if you like cutting edge technology as I do go Samsung or any other non Apple device that does not completely lock you

NOHOWINC: not sure just why you are here complaining. But to address some of your points:

#1: Chrome works fine. Just tested it. Follow the instructions above to tell it to serve up the Desktop version of the site.

#2: The iPad supports EVERY cloud service just in its own way. On my iPad I have Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive, PogoPlug and Box.net All of them function perfectly well and allow me to access any cloud service I want.

#3: The iPad, by design, is sandboxed for its files. It has been from the very first one. Which means there is NO "file based" system like you are use to on Windows or even a Mac desktop. Any program that supports iCloud will grab any of your iCloud files using the "Open In" command. So again, I'm not sure what your points are.

If this is so imperative to you, I recommend using Goodreader or Documents 5. Both will happily let you search and access all your files on your iCloud Drive system. They even show it to you in your traditional Folder view to make it easy. Both work fine and I'm not partial to either one.

There are occasionally some free alternatives like iCloud Opener ... but Apple usually takes them down (and please do NOT go try and download iCloud Opener ... its no longer a free app and no longer an iCloud Browser). NOTE: most times this means that Apple is developing its own alternative. So who knows.

In the end, rather than railing against something because it doesn't behave like YOU want it to, or expect it to, then trying to pimp your own solution, try understanding the platform you spent money on before you spend the money.

Would I love for iCloud to perform like Dropbox? Sure. That seems the most logical. Right now it doesn't. Though honestly since I can still access my files through other means, it hasn't been an issue for me.

Good luck with our quest. The iPad is just a tool. Sounds like it may be the wrong tool for you.

As an update to all this with iOS 10.1.1, I needed to access the iCloud web site, did it on my Mac, but came here to see why I can't access the full web site with my iPhone or iPad. The "secret" of using "Request full desktop site" was hopeful, but the instructions didn't work. Here's what I found. In the latest software, the symbol at the bottom with the square and the up arrow now has multiple uses.

When the symbol first appeared, I assumed it meant "Forward this email". Now you should relabel it in your mind to meaning "Take some action". So when iCloud dot com brings you the limited menu, tap the "Action" icon. In the bottom row (black and white) you will find the option "request desktop site".

As was stated elsewhere, this is clumsy being too large for the screen, but if you need to get to one of the full site options, it can now be done.
