iTunes 11 for Mac: Search is completely broken.

Argh!

So Apple - when you test iTunes - how many songs are you testing against?

My iTunes library has about 83k songs, 5,143 albums.

I loaded iTunes 11, and......

1.) Search is completely broken. As in, it DOES NOT WORK. Search should wait for typing to be completed or <enter> hit before trying to search. With a large iTunes library on a fairly new Mac, hit one letter - get spinny ball - wait 3 minutes - get result from first letter back. Wait to search for "The Grey Album" would potentially take a half hour of waiting. IT IS HORRIBLY BAD!

Without search - it's VERY difficult to navigate the collection of music I have,

PLEASE FIX THIS!

I have the same problem with my large music library. Also locks up iTunes completly from time to time. As an aside, it is annoying that changing applications clears the search results from iTunes.

It seems for my problem, that whenever you seach the entire library and if your query starts with "A", it will freeze the entire iTunes app.

So far this seems to work for me too. As long as you have you're "Music" hightlighted in the side bar.. This is only one of the things that seem to be wrong with 11. On to other forums to post other complaints..

I have appx 2 TB of music on an external drive..

Definitely try un-checking "search entire library: under the little magnifying glass by search.

I have the problem too.

When I listen to my music in the library ,and then switch to the music store

then swtich to my libary->then switch to the music store ( and listeing music at the same time)

The search will be broken.

No matter how I key in the "ENTER" ,I just doesn't work.

And I can't close my iTunes no matter how many times I press command+Q

What I can do is open the "activity monitor" to close it.

You can always do an Option-Command- Escape to force a quit.. Other than some annoying things like no cover flow and the way iTunes is now laid out, the unchecking of "seach entire library" has seemed to take care of the issues..

Perhaps 11.1 will take care of at least some of these..

I hate to force quit iTunes as I have corrupted libraies that way.

Also, for me, even when I narrow the search, I get the spinny-death.

I have exactly the same problem, 16,000 songs on my external hard drive. When I disable the 'search all library' feature it works like the old itunes, it doesn't show the new popup with the search resultus where you can add song the a queue.. this was my favourite feature of the new itunes! Please someone fix it :/

The magnifying glass worked for me - I have a large library (I don't see the bar telling me HOW large in the new version) and attempts to search froze up the machine and were totally useless. Using the magnifyinf glass to just switch to music seems to do the trick! Thanks!

There is defintely an issue... In iTunes 11, things have chnaged with how the system accesses the music.... I noticed this when my library kept swithcing back to its default location everytime I started it up.... My Library has now been duplicated twice trying to resolve this with some items being on an external HD.... I will try the "search entire library" under the sSearch music box... It still take time longer to close and sometimes just hangs for a while.. and needs a force quit.... hopefully not corrupting anything.... as has happened in the past... 33490 songs 260 GBs.... Make sure you consolidate and organize your librariesand back up in the event some issues present themselves... 11.1 should fix some of these quirks.... Ciao
