iTunes 11 doesn't automatically transfer app updates

I've just been syncing my iPhones and iPad with iTunes 11 for the first time and noticed a problem

Even after syncing each device, each of which is up-to-date with apps, iTunes 11 showed 23 available updates from the store.

I had to manually go to File > Devices > Transfer Purchases to get the updates into my library. On iTunes 10 these updates would automatically be copied to my library.

Is there any way I can get back to that?

Seriously? You're saying its better to use CTRL+B to show the file menu, when on Mac it's already there? You know what's inefficient? Your comment that contributed nothing. Thanks though. This isn't a Mac vs PC forum or topic, so I suggest you go elsewhere. The point is iTunes 11 needs some work in auto app transferring.

I have an iPod, iPad and now an Iphone and as I accidently said yes to update iTunes to Version 11, I now have the same problem. Have Apple done a deal with telecommunications providors to make me use more internet usage so I can have all my apps updated I now have to update four times - iPod, iPad, iPhone and iTunes. I've now decided that as these devices require replacement I WILL NOT be buying Apple products. Apple should seriously start taking customers convenience into account when changing iTunes. I imagine there are a lot of unhappy people out there. I now I am. I have updated the apps using iTunes, but when I sync the iPhone, the apps don't go over. Most frustrating.

I agree that this is a big issue for us users with multiple devices trying to keep Apps up-to-date...families for example and this worked automatically before. It would be great if Apple could bring this back.

For example, in our family using this prior functionality, we have found it easier to update Apps centrally on iTunes and then sync devices to iTunes once in a while. Then, any updated Apps have been downloaded once centrally and are then copied out to all devices upon sync. And any purchases made on the devices are also automatically copied back centrally to iTunes. This has worked great for us..hope it is brought back.

I agree that apple should bring this functionality back.

Another example is when i wanted to remove an app from ALL devices i would delete from itunes and sync. iTunes would ask me if I wanted to trasnfer apps, select no and app would be deleted from all devices.

This now must be done manually on iTunes then all devices otherwise when you use transfer apps in itunes it will bring that app back.

Please apple, fix this issue.

I too had the same problem but after updating my preferences in tunes it resolved.

  1. Sign in using your apple id in i-tunes(press Ctrl+B and then store tab. click sign in).
  2. Once you sign in successfully, open Store Preferences(Ctrl+,)
  3. Go to Store tab
  4. Enable/Check the options Music/Apps/Books under Automatic Downloads with which itunes can download new purchases made on other devices using the apple id you signed with to itunes.

Hope this resolves your problem too.

Thanks raj_usa, tried what you detailed in your post but still not working.

Try this on yours, delete an app from iTunes, click sync (not transfer apps) and check if it removes app from your devices.

Has anyone else tried this and succeeded, maybe it's my machine that doesn't work properly.

BTW, I'm using Windows 7 with itunes 11.0.2.25

Thanks.
