Play counts not updating? - iTunes 11

Just updated to iTunes 11 and track information such as play count, skip count, laste played date, etc. are NOT updating as I listen to songs. I have quite a few smart playlists based around this data and now they aren't updating.

Just me or is this a bug?

Thanks!

I've played with itunes for a few days now and have found 2 things that allow the play count to work. 1. disable crossfade. 2. clear up next. The thing with clearing up next after every song you play is it'll be superiorly annoying. The thing with the crossfade is that when you disable it you have to pause the song you're listening to and then start playing again. If you don't do that then it wll not update play count. If you like you can even restart itunes and it will work. I've tried this on 3 Mac computers (Macbook Air, Macbook Pro, & Mac Pro) and 2 Windows computers (Desktop with Windows 8 & Laptop with Windows 7) It work on all of these computers just fine. I hope apple comes out with a fix for this in their next update and really soon. My smart filters are suffering.

The usual crap from Apple scarcely comes from the Technical Sector and very often from the 'Great Ideas' and tortuous thinking of the Commercial Blokes.

It's quite hard to figure out how such a stupid thing wasn't noticed and fixed, it doesn't take the Lord of Programmers to update playcounts.

So the question is why? has anyone for instance noticed a different behaviour of tracks bought at the Itunes Store vs. other outsourced? (just an example).

To cause some minor nuisance like this to those who don't buy by them, it's quite typical.

The issue discussed in this thread is playcounts not updating when being played in iTunes on the computer. Playcounts not syncing from an iPod is a different issue which is usually a problem with the iPod. An iPod set to manually manage music and videos will not sync playback histories to iTunes. If the iPod is set to auto sync try Resetting the iPod.

The Reset procedure is non-destructive and varies from iPod to iPod. With a touch hold the Sleep and Home buttons till you see the Apple icon. With a click wheel iPod hold the center and Menu buttons till it restrats.

I had this problem due to iTunes match, which was not allowing the play count to be updated and some times it would revert back to play count couple of days or weeks back. I used drugs scripts to update the play count in iTunes and reset iTunes match by holding the option key and turning off itunes match and then turning iTunes match back on by holding the option key. After this the play counts would be retained.

Its a bug as it keeps recurring and have to do this a regularly.
