iTunes 11: No more album art preview for selected track??? :(

For me, iTunes 11 is much worse than iTunes 10.

You can no longer view album art by selecting a track in list view.

In list view, album art is invisible — the album art square in the lower left-hand corner is gone. So unless the track is playing, you can't see album art. This is terrible news for people who need list view, like DJs. People like me who rely on album art to remember what an album is, can no longer just click around and see the covers. This was a tremendous memory aid, which is now gone.

Now to see album covers, you have to either play the track, or switch to grid or artist list — which show either no tracks, or very few tracks.

Bummer.

hi people,

i think people like me who are having problems with this album art issue are saying that it's no longer showing automatically, not like we don't know just click on the small icon and boom here's the insanely large album cover, we want it on the lower left corner

That's not it- or at least not the whole thing.

It's now impossible to see full art for any track that's not currently playing!

I don't really know, but I would guess if enough people complain about this they at least have to notice (though that doesn't necessarily mean they'll solve the problem). I'm clicking on "I have this problem too" on threads related to this issue, and liking individual posts. I don't know if that helps, but it's the only thing I can think of.

Please, Apple, solve this!

Yeah, this is an absolutely devastating loss for me. I exclusively use the song list view, and have since I started using iTunes nearly 7 years ago. I need the text information -- the release date, genre, bit rate, etc -- along with the cover art. It's frankly insulting that they would think removing an optional sidebar artwork preview window would be acceptable. Even more of a joke is the 25px wide album cover in the cluttered mess of a display bar along the top. I can't tell if this entire release is an early April Fool's joke, it's so bad. The album cover browser they seem to be forcing down our throats is so clunky, unorganized, unintuitive, and especially laggy when scrolling that even if it was nice to look at (it's not), it's practically unusable and impractical for efficiently browsing a music library unless you have something like 20 albums total.

My temporary solution has been to open the album cover popup player, shrink it down to size, and put it in the bottom left corner of the app for the time being. But if the next patch doesn't re-add the option to display cover art in list view, I'm absolutely going to being looking for a better replacement music player.

so true, for people like me who have like 60k+songs this new version of itunes is somewhat inefficient.

and i was doing exactly like what you did!!! click on the small pathetic album icon and then scale it to abour 500x500 or perhaps larger, and I ALSO placed it at the bottom left corner LOLLLL, i need the cover art not only to make more easy for me recognize the song's being played, but i'd like clear image, so if after i downloaded an album i can see the image and then edit it with other images i found online.

well, to me, the only selling point of this itunes 11:

1. the "play next"

2. the beautiful intergrated album view

play next is rubbish in my opinion, to have songs shuffled is to have myself surpreised, i'm not gonna sit here and eidt what's gonna play next, this is definitely a fail

as for the album view, it's beaituful, you see the nice intergrated background of the album art, and sometimes you see different color or the text of the names of the songs and ect, but again, eye candy, it would be very cool if it is in the mini player

Exactly. For people who play in real time for parties it's a disaster.

For people who care about cover art- it's a disaster.

But if you click the main window, the small window disappears in back. And it doesn't work in any case for checking tracks that aren't playing. It's not a solution.

I can no longer arrow through a list to check cover art.

This is a disastrous update.
