Lets clarify.... Ur post states Iphone 5 syncing problem. Ur message states ur having an issue with putting music on Itunes 11 itself. Which is it?
I think i know what he means. I downloaded the new iTunes today and i cant seem to find a way to move my music from my iTunes library to my iPhone manually. Cleary missing something here.

If this is the case,
This box is ticked already. Im using the new iTunes (11 i think). Its like the phone section is a diferent page from my normal library. The iPhone isnt listed on the left hand side anymore.
Try Ctrl + S to bring back the Side Bar, that maybe shows the iPhone
You're a genuine hero. Thanks!
Man, I had the same issue... had to text my buddy to figure it out. Is it simple? Yes. Is it intuitive? Only if you've never done it the other way before:
Go to your itunes winodw, and in the upper right area, under the "iTunes Store" button click the "Add To..." button. Then you can add songs manually to your iPhone5.
The new iTunes is really really different, and it's taking me a long time to get used to. Kinda frustrating, but whatcha gonna do? Guess I'll take some time to sit with it and learn the new ways... oof...
**Edit: I just backed out and came back in, to find the "Add To..." button gone... I had to grab a song, and drag it over to the right side of the screen and then magically (surprisingly) the right side panel popped up with destination options... including my iphone 5....
Man this is some wacky voodoo stuff going on here...
***Edit again: Ugh! Under "View" in the menu bar, "View Sidebar"... I'm such a doofus... but stilll... should it have been that much work? :S
Good call mjcm_nl. View tab, show side bar, and like magic iTunes looks like the old way we are all familiar with!
You're my hero too.
Thank you soo much. I'm very greatful for your comment's help it is truly a life saver because I need my music for school tomorow I'm glad I looked at this even though it said iPhone 5 and I have the 4 lol. Well Thanks to you and the people who asked the questions :+)
It's not control + S.
It's Opt + Command + S ... at least on a Mac.
Try enabling your iPhone to be manually managed for music and video. You do that in iTunes when connected to the phone. Once you do that, you should be able to drag and drop the music files from the iTunes window onto the iPod Music tab on the left-side sidebar. If you don't see the sidebar, no problem. Just go into the view menu and select it there.
What's more, you can try out this method on putting music files from computer to iPhone.
I've been trying to add music to my iPhone 5 for DAYS now and it just refuses to appear.
When I open iTunes on my PC and after dragging the songs to my phone they look like they ARE on my phone BUT instead of black they're grey with a broken circle on the left of each song.
What more can I do?
Thank you this has helped so much!! Now I can manage what goes onto my phone!
"Hit CONTROL S" - This is the answer everyone is looking for.
I had the same issue so I messed around a bit and I think I figured it out (fingers crossed).
Click on iPhone under devices on the left. Then click on Music (at the top) and click the Sync button - I'm syncing my entire library (looks like it's going to take a few hours.....).
I hope this helps!
