Home sharing not working properly after iTunes 11

Home sharing is not working properly after iTunes 11 and its related softwares updates. When streaming to ATV from mac when mac goes to sleep the atv stops playing a show. This issue was not present before the update...

Fix (at least for me):

I too had this problem after updating both my Win7 64-bit Shuttle XPC and my mid-2011 MacBook Air w/ iTunes 11.0

I recently bought an iPad and an AppleTV v3 in attempt to listen to and control the same symultaneous music throughout my apartment. Before the update, it kinda worked. Either it was slow/rebuffered-often or it did not work at all. Then with the 11.0 update, nothing on any of my 4 "home sharing" electronics. I was contemplating just buying an Airport Express. After reading this post, I decided to scrub thru all the firmware settings of my 2010 Linksys E2000 router. I had "Filter NAT Redirection" and "Filter Multicast" already disabled, so after reading on it, I disabled "SPI Firewall Protection" and all my problems immediately went away.

I'm now able to control two computers' library's to two separate speaker systems all from my iPad, with minimal wifi delay.

Keep in mind I am on a personal encrypted network in an apartment. Only myself and my 8-ish devices reside on it, so nothing and noone (local) is getting past my WPA2.

I hope this helps.

I have a similar but not identical problem. Running the latest versions of Mountain Lion, iTunes, Apple TV 3 and Remote app.

Last night I could play a 1080p three hours movie from iTunes without interruptions, but some very short 1m movie clips each needed 15 seconds or so buffering, if they played at all. These are minor problems compared to playing audio. If I select a song from a playlist, that song plays properly, but very often the next in the playlist does not. Remote displays the next track, but it just "sticks" at 0.00. Pauzing/playing does not help much, moving the slider and then playing often does. Sometimes things really get messed up. I just had the Apple TV playing one track and Remote displaying the progress of another.

The combination iTunes/Apple TV and the Remote app always was a bit of a flaky one. I was hoping that updating the lot would improved things, but actually it became worse...

Tiresome that yet another update (iTunes 11) that doesn't seem to be tested well enough before release... For either playing music from Apple TV directly via homesharing, or via the Remote App and Airplay, when my mac goes to sleep we are drenched in silence. I guess the solution is to adjust the sleep settings on my mac. Standards seem to be slipping and so I guess my expectations should be lowered.

Affecting me and it's not the sleep settings. On or off it does it. And even if sleep is set for 15 minutes I might only get 10 minutes of play before drop out etc. Then I get either nothing or justs few minutes more. Have changed nothing since the update and now the issues are there. Everything is apple including my router (extreme). Just changed to 5ghz band as suggested by one but haven't had time to see if it works.

Well, for me it is definitely a sleep issue. I have tested it at a ten minute spleen interval, a fifteen minute interval, etc. Home sharing drops when the home computer goes to sleep. If I set to sleep to never it does not cut out. I have tried deleting my energy saver preferences, I have fixed permissions on the home computer, and I reinstalled iTunes 11 but it still conks out when the sleep interval is up.

Maybe we should start a new thread with the sleep issue in the title.

Cheers
