Guess what, I too have a problem with home sharing. Basically, my iPad shows the wrong album illustrations for the wrong albums, it mixes wrong album names/artists with the wrong albums, it doesn't show all the albums or artists I have on my Mac, but interestingly, the song list does seem to be complete. Mixed up and unorganised, but way more than the number of albums/artists would suggest.

Yea! After days and days of frustration, I finally got iTunes Home Sharing to work on my iPad Mini.

It seems as though everybody's situation is different as far as what it takes to get iTunes Home Sharing to fully work. This is what finally worked for me.

Problem:

iPad Mini cannot see my Home Sharing library, so I can't stream content via WiFi. It seems to *find* the library, but it just sits-and-spins and never loads anything. Every other device in the network operates fine, just as expected.

Some Background:

Network Devices: PC with Win 7 64-bit, PC with XP Pro, Samsung Laptop Win 7, AppleTV2, AppleTV3, iPad Mini

Router: Dlink DIR-655

Firewall: Zonealarm Free

Very large library (e.g. > 100,000 songs)

Things I tried that didn't work:

1. Router firmware updated, router settings (port forwarding, multicast enabling, wpa vs wpa2, etc, etc, etc)

2. Zonealarm turned off and uninstalled, used Windows built in firewall

3. Disabled IPv6

4. Updated iTunes to 11.1

5. Updated iPad Mini to iOS 7

6. A whole host of other things that worked for other people mentioned in threads like this one

What ACTUALLY worked for me:

On my main PC (Win 7 64-bit), turning on Home Media Streaming in Windows Media Player

Soon after I did that, the iPad Mini not only finds the Home Sharing library, but ACTUALLY LOADS IT within a few seconds. I don't know why it works, just that it does. Perhaps some switch buried deep in the OS that I had overlooked got thrown by turning this on. Bottom line is that it works now.

I tried a bunch of things that worked for other people, but this is what finally worked for me. Of course, YMMV.

Compatibility mode? I'd call it crazy, but it worked for me. I found it funny that a dialog box popped up stating that I was running iTunes in a compatibility setting for an older version of the OS and for better performance, turn off compatibility mode.

If by "better performance" you mean "doesn't work for cramp," then it's an accurate statement. Otherwise, iTunes is bats.

Thanks again for the top, I can watch my movies on my Apple TV again.

Wow! I have spent countless days on this problem and the fix by cgs0403 has finally fixed Apple's problem. After making the change to compatibilty mode, you will always get an error message telling you it will not run correctly in XP mode.

I then went back into those properties and switched it to compatibility with Windows 7 and not XP SP3. That now corrected the error and all runs the way it was intended. My iPhone and ATV now all see my PC library.

Thanks for the help. Lets see if another update undoes all this work...

In my last update, I said that changing the compatibility mode corrected the Home Sharing issue but turned out to be problematic and not really solving anything.

I now tried another fix which has worked completely. I think I have seen this fix elsewhere. I went into the network LAN card and turned off TCP/IP Version 6. Now the Home Sharing icon appears on my iTunes app and also on my iPhone. It looks like Microsoft may have turned it on during one of its patches. At this point, nothing really needs version 6 so should be no harm in disabling it.

Maybe it should have "0 effect" but that's not the case. In this case, it really does reconnect iTunes to the rest of my devices on my home network, as far as sharing media is concerned. AND, I can still get to the other network resources, such as shared drives and the Internet.

SHould this step be necessary? Of course not. Could there be unseen issues? Absolutey. However, to say it has no effect is inaccurate.

I had the same problem after updating to the latest iTunes I had no home sharing whatsoever checked everything rebooted everything, uninstalled everything re-installed everything, but still no joy, then a friend told me that he had been reading other problems with iTunes updates on an other forum that it could be the windows firewall causing the problem,So anything was worth a try I checked all the incoming rules and outgoing rules and even made new rules up just to make sure that everything was letting iTunes through the firewall but guess what still no joy in home sharing,So my last resort was just to turn windows firewall off completely and guess what everything was working again on the home sharing all the iPads ,iPhones ,Apple TV so it was windows fire wall causing the problem,so just to confirm it was I turned it on again and no home sharing,So I have found the problem after 2 months of no home sharing which was driving my family nuts,But you cannot really leave you computer without a firewall so I have downloaded a free one which was zone alarm and home sharing is working perfect with this firewall,

So have a go and switch off your windows firewall and see if it works this maybe a cure it worked for me
