itunes 11 store sort search results

just updated to itunes 11. went to the store and searched for a song. the results came back but i can't sort sort on any of the columns. the ctrl+j or view > view options pop-up that you can use for your own library doesnt seem to work in the store. how do you sort the store search results?

Nope - not working on mine. I select an artist, click on songs, click on popularity - and the first few look like they are organized by popularity, but the rest are clearly organized by album name - popularity all over the place. Just try it! go to the Michael Jackson page, click on "see all" on songs - click popularity and the first few appear to be organized, wait til they all load first, same result - still not working.

Anyone else?

Of course!

The first few look organized, but then as you scroll down it just lumps them by album and the popularity ranking is all over the place - no matter how many times i click it and no matter how long i wait, it seems to just put them in a very generic sort of order regardless of popularity. Almost like they 'want' us to buy the ones they want...

I'm curious to know how their popularity ranking works, perhaps that would give insight into why this has yet to work for me. do you suggest a particular method, maybe I'm doing something wrong...

Well well well whatcha know...sorting is back. Thanks to apple!. It doesnt seem to be fully functional because if my search yields extensive results, I cant seem to scroll to the bottom of the page because it takes for ever to produce the results if any at all. But hey I am happy sorting is back! Yippie

Popularity sort is indeed not based on that graphical representation. I would imagine the graphic could be different for each artists volume and then whatever metric they use when they are all lumped together in a sort. Who knows what's in the underlying code. Obviously it's not translating to the overall graphics.

Alphabetical works for Song, Artist and Album though which is a big improvement from the last four months.

I suspect that the loss of the Power Search and sort features is a long-range marketing decision. It’s possible that the major recording labels didn't like Apple's "Power Search" and "Ratings Sort" because they democratizes the retrieval of songs and artists. Previous versions of ITunes gave the customer a lot power to discover unknown and small-time artist, and covers. The press recently reported that Apple is preparing to enter the online radio market. Meanwhile Pandora, the current market leader, is locked in a battle the major recording labels and artists over royalties. By winning favor with the major labels, Apple could be hoping to gain competitive advantage. Also, in the long run, I would think the major labels want customers to buy albums and not cherry pick one or two songs per album, a practice clearly faciliated and encouraged by Power Search and Ratings Sort.

Very well said

I like to buy songs . There may be 100's or 1000's of the same song. I like to find unplugged and acoustic versions . Genre is the best way to separate them . I really hope that they would bring back Genre in song search.

I haven't the foggiest idea what Power Search is? I guess I'll never know ? Searching help in my v10 itunes comes up blank too?

Interesting what you say about the database engine. Try searching Silant Night>Songs>Veiw All Songs.

v11 puts all the searchs on one page. This compleatly freaked out the seatch engine yesterday. It peaked at around 1500 for me and then they started disapearing. The scroll bar never went to the bottom so there were probably more.

Above is image of Power Search, which was available under Quick Links on the ITunes home page. You could enter different parameters, giving better control.
