What are your thoughts on the New iTunes 11?

I for one am not very impressed! You lose cover flow, and the ability to resize your album art. Unlike previous versions where everything is not in just one area now your searching over the whole itunes for what you need to do. Its cluttered and instead of just editing one album your stuck at looking at all the other distractions instead of what your trying to edit. What are all of your thoughts on this new itunes?

It looks good but 2 issues.

1. Cover flow doesn't matter, its about as useful as magnifying your dock icons; but not being able to reduce the size of your album art is a major set back. It looks really sweet to have loads of small album icons fill your screen.

2. I think they got the menu options the wrong way round. The Music, TV shows, Movies drop down should be set out across the top as open buttons and the Album, Artist, Genre etc open buttons should be in the drop down box.

Other than that a good update. Love the way the album opens up with the faded album art. Nice feature.

Big love

There's a lot of stuff I like in iTunes 11: the new album view is very slick and pretty; the new dropdown menu replacing the old sidebar is a great change, and clears more room for playlists; the little arrow menu next to the currently playing song's title is simple and elegant; Up Next may or may not be something I end up using, but it's a neat feature; I'm not sure if playlist folders existed before, but I've only just discovered them and that's an excellent feature that I've wanted for a while.

But I do have two complaints right off the bat -- both essentially simple aesthetic concerns:

- I want to be able to view album art in playlist "list" view, complete with the "sort album by title/year/artist" options from iTunes 10. I'm not sure why this feature was removed from the playlist "view" menu while list and grid and column views are all still there, but I disapprove of the change, especially since I mostly listen to music in playlists rather than just browsing my library/albums.

-It really bugs me how the track # column now seems to insist on the "# of #" format instead of just showing the track number by itself, which I seem to remember being the case in iTunes 10. I have absolutely no need to know how many tracks an album has while looking at my library and playlists (if ever), so all this new feature does is make that column ugly, and wider than it needs to be.

And one more which I hadn't noticed myself, but saw on this forum:

-Please restore the ability to open playlists in new windows. I know "Add to" sort of fills the same role that multiple windows sometimes did, but multiple windows is still better, as it also allows for adding to one playlist from another playlist, etc.

I'm doing better with it. I still fantasize about being in a room with the developers so that I can throw rocks at their heads, but I'm no longer swearing out loud at the application (much).

So I just added a new album from a new artist. In the Artist view, no cover art appears next to that artist. This used to be handled by the "Default grid artwork" setting.

Has anyone found a replacement for that functionality?

This is seriously buggy. I only have one album from that artist in my collection and iTunes can't figure out which graphic to put next to the artist in the artist view? Hint, there's only one!

Does anybody at Apple test this ***t before it leaves the building? Seriously.

i know i'm probably just repeating what everyone else is saying but anyway...

i'm a big time, longserving, dyed in the wool, hardcore apple fan. Since 1993.

generally not inclined to moan / complain. the Newton was a shame. losing iWeb was a pain. Numbers never came close for me. MobileMe galleries will be sorely missed. but those were Small Fry...

iTunes 11 really does NOT do it.

UPgrade? (it's pantomime season) "oh, no it wasn't!!!".

lots of lost functionality (coverflow, control over artwork etc), but worst of all is what i see as a completely chaotic reorganisation of the basic functionality: we all have our own ways of using stuff, but for me...

i want to see what podcasts have been updated and download them,

then i want to do the same for iTunesU.

then i want to do the same for my apps.

then i want to sync them all to my iPhone5 and iPad1.

then maybe i want to browse the store for some stuff.

just going through that simple set of procedures is ALL OVER THE PLACE!!

please give us a DOWNgrade option asap.

Hi Keith:

I get what you're saying. Thank you!! It works now. I didn't realize there were 2 checkable options on the droplist.

Now at least the application is usable. I didn't want to have to downgrade 'cuz my AppleTV already upgraded to align w/iT 11, and who knows what would have happened with that.

Of course, now I have to re-place the missing 50% of my cover art, but what else do I have to do with my free time?
