What are your thoughts on the New iTunes 11?

**** must have frozen ove. This is the 1st tme I have ever given NEGATIVE feedback about Apple. iTunes 11 in my opionion is absolutely terrible. I hate it and will try to migrate back. I'm glad I only "upgraded" my iMac. I'll try to migrate the older version from my MacBook pro......

OK, grudgingly coming around. Now that I've figured out how to do a search (thanks, Keith Johnson), and how to get all my cover art back (I 'Selected All' albums & right-clicked to do 'Get Album Artwork'), I've gotten most of my artwork back. I realized most of the stuff I've manually added was still there.

Thinking about it, in 10.6, everytime somebody clicked 'Get Album Artwork' in the old menu, it would hit up the iTunes store for their entire library. Forcing the lookup request level to only selected albums is probably a good idea from an Apple perspective--reduces traffic load.

I'm using iTunes daily @ present. This new version is so archaic. No cover flow, no duplicates list, no shuffle. It looks boring. I don't like it.

The designers @ Apple on this one must be a new breeed ... "Let's not be creative and innovative. Let's be really boring and limit the program. Make it really dull. Yay"

Apple is **** bent on losing business.

In general I don't find the changes such a big negative. Things look cleaner & are probably a bit more logically arranged especially given that iTunes has never been the jewel in the crown before. However there are some things for me that just appear to be crassly thought out;

- Why dispense with the "Gapless Album" option in info? Is there something I've missed or do we now only have a choice of universally setting "Crossover Fade" to zero to achieve a similar effect? Having said that, on a cursory experiment of a few live albums, 11 currently appears to respect my 10 settings for "Gapless Album", but of course any new albums I import ...

- Why no control over font size? It's far too big for me as it is now.

- There doesn't seem to be any way to control the Album Art size in any of the views & not to have the art show show in the Song view is IMO shear stupidity.

- When switching between Songs/Artists/Albums, unless you are very careful you end up at the top of the selected item i.e. All Songs/Artists/Albums or whatever. This is madness if you have a large collection.

- If you are into classical music (or Jazz, even), apart from the Songs view, you have no way of ordering by Composer.

- Sometimes when switching views or coming out of Prefs. I get huge blocky artifacts covering the iTunes window.

I hope I'm missing a trick with some of the above and someone will point out where the functunality resides to turn that thing on, but, I suppose I'm doing a bit of "Rage, rage against the dying of the light" as Apple dumbs us desktop users down to what is possible on a tablet or phone. I'll lose, I know, but the goodwill built up with me since 1991 (god, 21 years now!) will ebb and eventually I'll end up running an anonymous version of linux on an anonymous box. It'll be far, far cheaper but the ride will not be the same. In advance, Apple, thanks for the fish.

First look and use - it's utter trash. Thankfully I updated the MacBook which I don't use for music managment. I won't be updating my iMac from this point forward. iTunes 10.?.? was fine, worked great, looked great and had no problems that I could see.

Having said that it does take me a while to come round to changes, but when I installed it WHAM!! there was all the music I'd ever purchased waiting to be downloaded. Thankfully I found the option to only see the songs on the computer.

Seriously, listen to the man/woman/Mac user. I did, and am happily back to iTunes 10.7. No glitches, no error messages. Step by step, it does literally take 10 mins, give and take. No need to back up your entire system, either, merely the relevant files. If you just landed here and are understandably reluctant to read 25 pages of posts, at least follow the above link: if you want to downgrade, it is definitely doable—in about the time it would take you to write an angry post about how badly you want CoverFlow back.

Folks, I think we have established now that iTunes 11 is a bloody disgrace. But so far I have not seen any of the media picking up on this. How do we get the word out on this? Apple will only change if their public image is tarnished like in the Maps case...

GMaB, I agree with you completely. What have we accomplished here in the past week. About 375 messages, almost all negative. 375. And that doesn't even take into account that some of us have posted a few times.

375. You know what that means to Apple? Here's one clue. They have not responded in any way to what has been said here. Apparently they really do not care. And we shouldn't be surprised.

We are a tiny, tiny percentage complaining about Apple's least profitable subdivision, the computer market. Apple's profits are in their portables. iPods, iPhones, iPads. It's no accident that they are trying to force fit an iPad OS onto Macs.

We can grouse about the crappy new iTunes until the end of time, and as long as it stays in this tiny club, it is an exercise in frustration. So I reinforce what GMaB said. How do we get the word out about this.

Wow, I just moved back to iTunes 10.7 as well. What a pleasant, clean and logical way to navigate through your music library it presents!

And the layout is also tons better than the crippled iTunes 11:

- The font is much nicer

- The buttons are aligned in a clean fashion and not just dumped somewhere

- You can see attention to detail with shadows, etc. (if I want to buy ugly, I buy Windows!)

- Even the iTunes icon makes more sense with its black note that makes it less likely to mix it up with the App Store (and who has ever seen a note printed in white, for heaven's sake!)

I don't know what's wrong at Apple, but have they lost their FUCCKKING MINDS???

ARE YOU TOO BUSY CASHING IN YOUR STOCK OPTIONS???

Give Me A Break!

One method that would undoubtedly work is for everyone that dislikes the new version to stop buying anything from the iTunes store. (Or the App store, for that matter).

Nothing like voting with your wallet to get a point across.

Having said that, however, it is unlikely in the extreme that any such thing will happen, as there is nowhere else to get our cheapie apps for our mobile devices.

I for one, have stoped automatically downloading Apple updates without waiting a few days and checking the forums for feedback first. As others have mentioned, I want my computer to be a tool, not a toy.

Back on 10.7. What a relief. Feels like two completely different applications.

WRT not buying from iTunes, I switched to Amazon years ago so I wouldn't have to deal with lock in. hated it with Sony, hate it with Apple.

A poor iTunes application is a gateway to leaving the Apple ecosystem. Once you don't care about iTunes, jailbreaking an iPhone, or just going with the arguably just as good competition, becomes more attractive.

Apple is not as head and shoulders above the competition as it once was. iTunes 11 shows real vulnerability imo.

This follows a litany of problems ovber the past several years (the iPhone era). FCP, degraded iLife apps, the "dumbing down" of desktop apps, HUGE breaks in usability (reload button in Safari) and end-user customization... Single instances aren't a huge cause for concern, but trends are appearing.

I agree with Saki GT. I was going to get an and iPad and iPhone with my yearly bonus, but I will not be spending it at Apple, which in the long run saves me money. Sad, but they won't miss me, plenty of others out there to buy their toys.

They aren't so muckin fuch afterall.
