Is it no longer possible to create shuffled playlists in iTunes 11?

Making a new smart shuffle list would work to a degree. But to have songs that you want to add are hard to add to the list. But making a shuffled playlist with TV shows or movies for the Apple TV still doesn't work. Also making a smart list removes some songs from shuffled song list.

Right click - Copy to play order then sync the iPod. This will sync the playlist in the order they are shuffled in iTunes.

It is possible to shuffle with iTunes 11,

play a song and at the top window where it says the name, artist, length and the cover art.

On the bottom corners there is a shuffle and random button. Not sure on the exact names.

Click both so that they are blue and it will randomly shuffle your music. 😝

I've been working with this problem also. 11 clearly does not shuffle playlists visually anymore. Why they thought that made sense is simply beyond me. There must be some geeky dumbwit diddling himself deep in the bowels of iTunes development at Apple making these decisions.

Anyway, I've given up trying to figure out 11. It's so screwed up and obtuse now, dumbed down for the dumbest of Apples' customers. It's absurd, really. I just figure Apple has their head so far up their you-know-what these days that the end of times is near, no doubt. They're doing their best to push away their most loyal customers.

Steve, remember when you could shuffle a playlist and it would stay shuffled until you purposely shuffled it again? Unlike 10, where it shuffled every time you freshly played it? They keep pulling features. Pretty soon iTunes will just be a static image on the screen.

iTunes sorts a playlist based on the column header you select.

That's so stupid and convoluted it's absurd. Take a simple concept of shuffling a playlist that now has become a multi-step process with results you can't view visually. Oh yeah, that makes complete sense to me. Sorting on columns has been there for ages - sorting this way is not a freakin' shuffle.

You seem to have not read/misread what I wrote.

It's a single step process you can view visually.

iTunes ahs ALWAYS sorted on the column you select, even if Shuffle is enabled.

If you want to view as shuffled, select the first column header with the numbers. This has always been the ONLY way to view the shuffled order.

Chris, I KNOW it's always shuffled on the first field. That's not the issue. The issue is this. Create a new playlist, add your songs. Now, how do you shuffle this playlist and see the results on the screen? How do I tell iTunes to always shuffle this play list and always repeat all, but not shuffle this or that other playlist? In v10, you'd simply highlight the playlist and toggle on or off repeat and/or shuffle for that one playlist. Setting those for one playlist did not affect any other playlist.

As it stands now, it appears the old shuffle is gone. You can make a playlist, but ability to shuffle a playlist and send it on to an iPod or whatever is gone. We now have both repeat and shuffle as part of the playback controls for the all playlists, and the individual repeat and shuffle controls for each playlist are gone. Apple has been dumbing down shuffle for several versions now, each one giving us less and less control. Now there is no control. It's stupid.
