iTunes 11 won't import new music

I had music imported back prior to 11 and it all seems fine. I was able to download new podcasts and have them show up. However, for some reason, when I try and drag music into the main music area, or on the menu bar on the left, nothing imports. All files are mp3s, locally located and have always worked in the past, so I'm unsure what's going on. Has anyone had a similar issue? I've tried restarting itunes and restarting the computer and the problem persists.

Thank you Phil!

That worked. But I found out that my external apple superdrive was ?defective. I borrowed another on from a friend and it played and imported just fine. But the strange thing was, that other cd's played and imported fine. Funny that the newest one didn't work. That's the 2nd external apple superdrive that I have had to replace, I think I'll do the unthinkable and go to another brand! Thanks for the suggestion.

This is honestly the last straw for me. The last few devices I've bought have been apple products, but with this issue about not being able to add new songs, the home sharing debacle, apple maps etc I'm just not going to buy any more. While none of these problems on their own are desperately serious, it's the complete opposite of "it just works" which was the reason I bought Apple stuff in the first place.

I've been having a similar problem - an imported CD will not appear in my itunes list, but will appear in 'recently added'. It was an old CD, so itunes didn't recognize it. I put in an Album name, but not an Artist (figuring that wasn't necessary).

As soon as I downloaded it again, but added an Artist Name, the import worked just as it's supposed to - the CD was available as an Album and I could add it to my iphone.

Anyway, hope that helps somebody!

Hmm...

I'm having The Problem, now.

I've tried adding the discs to my Library by clicking on 'Add to Library', but nothing happens. (Because this is a 'greatest hits' collection, when I double-click on a song, it plays...but as the original song from the original album, not the greatest hits album.)

I tried putting the files in 'Automatically Add to iTunes'...but then the files disappear.

I've logged-out of iTunes, logged back in...all to no avail.

I've never had this problem before, where iTunes will not do as it's supposed to. : )

Anyone have any other suggestions? (I believe I've tried everything suggested...)

Same problem, but I've jsut bought a new iMac and transferred everything across from my old iMac. All my music came across, but I have been unable to add any new songs.

When I checked the iTunes Preferences>Advanced nothing had come across for the iTunes Media folder location. As soon as I specified the location everything worked perfectly.

My itunes will play imported music on my computer, but on my phone it acts like it is downloading them, but never does. If I delete them so that I can try to redownload them, it won't redownload them. These are songs that I have listened to on my phone several times before. This is very frustrating because I have spent hours putting this music on my phone and now it wont play?! It's rather irritating to pay for music only to have to fight to listen to it!!
