Where is the 'Alert Me' option in iTunes 11?

I can't find the option to 'alert me' or 'follow' an artist in the iTunes store in iTunes 11. I sent an email to support but they didn't help very much:

"Greetings from iTunes Store Support. My name is Aparicio. I understand that you are unable to locate the alert me or follow option in iTunes 11. I understand how important understand the new iTunes 11 is and below I have provided a link that will assist with answering all your questions about iTunes.

Does anybody know how to get alerts for an artist?

Thanks,

Zach

EdHayes3> You should read the full thread, the first post explained that "My Alerts" were accessible in iTunes 11.0.0 but that adding alerts had been removed. Version 11.0.1 changed none of that behavior.

However, I have tried using iTunes 10 and you can still add artists to your list. Now I'm not sure whether or not you would get an actual notification though for updates to that artist's iTunes page.

Thanks so much for solving this problem for me. I've been going round in circles trying to find how to add alerts until I read this forum. The more I use iTunes 11 the more angry I get how Apple have just thrown away really useful features without highlighting the fact so we're just left guessing. iTunes 11 is quite possibly the worst ever iTunes upgrade. I've had one problem after the next and the help section is totally useless as much of it still refers to previous versions. Apple have totally screwed up with this pile of crap. If I could switch to something better I would.

This "My Alerts" function in iTunes 11 seems to be more like Amazon's recommendations - it's new releases by artists you've previously downloaded from iTunes. so if you've used another download service for your favourite artists (or do you remember those shiny round things?) then you won't see it.

There's a service called Album Reminder which lets you set up lists of your favourite artists, and it will email to tell you about any new releases. You can also get an RSS feed.

I have something to add. I was not receiving iTunes alerts for my artists for close to a year. This is well before iTunes was updated to 11. I emailed support, and literally 6 months later they fixed it for me. They had their engineering department work on it I think, and for the first time in forever this March I received an artist alert email. Also, I have not updated to iTunes 11 and I can report I'm still adding new artists in iTunes 10 no problem and am getting the emails. Sooo... weird. What was the point of getting rid of it for iTunes 11 anyway? I can't imagine leaving the feature in would cost them much, mayhaps each email they send costs them? But they have no issues sending me the useless general Apple info every week.

I started using Album Reminder about 2 months ago: it is utterly superior to the iTunes Alert feature that we are all missing. You can easily add your entire library of artists via uploading an XML file and that's it—any new releases involving your selected artists will be brought to your attention via email (if you configure alerts.)

You can manually add artists and as someone who is into jazz, prog, ethnic, swedish metal, blues, instriumental etc I have not found an artist that was not recognized.

iTunes never alerted me to a new release in a timely fasion: the alerts would come weeks after I already had the album.

So I'm happy to not have to deal with iTunes Alerts anymore.

Yes, but does that AlbumReminder thing know when things are added to iTunes? Cause, that's more my problem. For example, last year at the same time as the release of her new album Warrior, Ke$ha also released an EP only to those who preordred from her site. It was released to iTunes February of this year. I just found out iTunes had it last week. So, telling me that the EP existed last year wouldn't have done me any good. I would need to know it was now available on iTunes.
