Where's the Power Search in iTunes 11?

You used to be able to search by Category, Title, Name, Description, etc., now, it's a cluster. Steve Jobs, we miss you, your user-friendly interface people have no clue!!!!

No, you're right, my overly-eager reply only applied to version 10, and only applied to store power search, not application power search. I had just upgraded to 10, noticed store power search missing, found how to get back to it, and thought that's what everyone was talking about. But apparenly only some people were talking about that; others were talking about 11+ store power search, and still others were talking about 11+ application power search, making this thread a bit of a mess. And, as I eventually found briefly fooling around with 11 on someone else's machine, 11+ uses a completely different store web portal than 10 does. So what fixed 10 store power search doesn't work at all in 11+. And I didn't find a solution. And I probably won't, since I'm sticking with 10.

I don't know whether or not someone else in this thread found a solution to the 11+ store power search problem, but my suspicion is that the best answer is to google "downgrade to itunes 10.7" and follow the instructions.

Good luck.

Wow, that was comprehensive. Thanks for making the effort.

No-one does seem to have found a solution. iTunes 11 got rid of Cover Flow and Power Search, and made everthing else counter-intuitive.

In my experience of Apple - which is nearly 20 years now - that's pretty unusual, but still unacceptable. I'll just hope they get it right next time....

Cheers

This works for Mac as well! What a genius.

However, I'm a bit suspicious of an "accidental" link.

How do we know, or how can we find out, if this isn't some clever pfishing or hacking tool?

I so want to put this on my desk top and use it, but I'm a bit cautious about where it came from.

And why, if it's there, can't we find an intuitive route in from iTunes itself?

Thanks DancingBob, that's quite a find.

Unfortunately that only puts the "Power Search" front end on iTunes, it would seem Apple has crippled the back-end becuase the Power Search doesn't work the way it used to. Here's some examples:

1. Search for "INXS" with "Music" selected in the drop-down menu under "Power Search" - a list of albums and videos comes up, but no songs are listed in the table at the bottom. With the old Power Search, you would get a list of that artist's songs from any album in order of popularity.

2. Now add a song in the Power Search form, such as "Need You Tonight" - you now only get the albums on which that song appears, but still no list of versions of that song in the table at the bottom.

3. Now search for a lesser-well known song, such as "Viking Juice" - nothing is found and the message returned is "Your search had no results in Music". But this isn't true - search for the album "Full Moon, Dirty Hearts", click on the album to see the track listing, and the song is there as track 12.

So there's no doubt, while there may be a back-door way to get the Power Search form to reappear in iTunes, the back-end of Power Search has been neutered.

Why Apple removed this functionality is a mystery. It costs them nothing to leave it in.

This is my first posting on Apple Support and the only reason is to express my profound disappointment at the removal of the Power Search feature in iTunes. I'm still running 10.7 and the feature is not visible (unless I use the URL workaround given above).

Virtually all my searches were Power Searches in order to reduce the totally unrelated results that iTunes likes to give.

I agree with the other posters that the iTunes interface is so cluttered as to border on useless. My facetime with Apple iTunes is now reduced to updating podcasts and looks to remain that way for the foreseeable future.

Where's the Power Search in iTunes 11?
