How to permanently delete voice memos from iPhone 4s?

User uploaded file

As you can see, I have over 387 voice memos somewhere on my phone, and I want them permanently deleted. I've deleted the voice memos through the voice memos app, and these appear to be all of the deleted voice memos. I tried deleted the voice memos playlist, and that didn't do anything either. This list is shown on the new iTunes.... where you click "On This Phone" when looking at my connected iphone. It's taking up a ton of space on my phone and I don't need them. A majority of them appear to be the exact same voice memo just in there a bunch of times. I can't find a solution anywhere for this.

Also, how can I make sure that any future voice memos don't sync to my iTunes? I can't find an option to uncheck the syncing of voice memos. All of these changes are confusing me.

Thank you!

UPDATE: I just checked, and I do not have voice memos checked in itunes as syncing to my computer from my phone. So why was it syncing anyway? I don't understand.

Hi everyone,

What a relief to see the last posting was as recent as July-I'm hoping you may be able to help out! I have an iPhone 6, iOS version 9.1; I have several voice memos (VM) on my phone, but note that when I sync my phone with iTunes, the VM don't get sync'd to the VM playlist called "Voice Memos" in iTunes, even though I do see them in the VM playlist under "My device" when my phone is connected to my computer-are you with me so far? In other words, the VM playlist in iTunes is empty; moreover, it is not even listed as a Playlist in Music, on my phone. I do not have a playlist called Voice Memos in Music on my phone.

I do have a playlist called Voice Memos in iTunes, but my VM are not syncing into that folder when the phone is connected and I sync.

As a test, I created 2-3 other playlists in iTunes, called VM2, VM3, VM4, and if I sync my phone, these playlists sync to my phone, so now I do have playlists called VM2, VM3, and VM4, however, if I want my VM that I create to reside in any of those folders, I have to drag them into the respective playlist from my hard drive.

It is quite clear to me that something is not working properly either within iTunes or within my phone. I spent hours on the phone with Apple this week (have another planned call this AM); we've done a phone restore, and still...no joy!

I have considered deleting the Voice Memo (original one) playlist from iTunes and creating it again just to see-maybe that playlist is corrupt? But before I do I wanted to know if it is "safe" to delete a playlist that iTunes had originally created? This would be the "default" VM playlist, if you like.

I should add that I am using a PC, with Windows Vista, and have the latest iTunes version running.

I should also add that the VM that are on my phone in the VM App, *are* being sync'd to my hard drive, but they are ending up in a variety of folders; one in particular is my Unknown Artist-Unknown Album folder! Why or how they are ending up there, through a sync is beyond me. The Apple rep said this could be the result of one of the more recent iOS updates, but still, it doesn't help me much.

The idea is to obviously have all my VM sitting in one folder on my hard drive....I know how to check which folder they are in by looking at Get Info....File-etc. but I am finding that they are sitting in 3-4 different folders. I think that is a separate problem.

So in essence, I may have 2 problems here:

1. My main Voice Memo playlist that is in iTunes is not in existence on my phone in Music; this is the one that iTunes comes with by default.

2. Although the above is true, I *can* see a Voice Memo playlist under "My device" when my phone is connected to my computer.

3. My VM are being held in 3-4 various locations on my hard drive (all in the iTunes folder) but in various places.

Any thoughts on what could be going would be appreciated, and if you know whether I can safely delete the Voice Memos playlist in iTunes and recreate it as a test, please could you let me know...thanks!
