Mail Can't connect to the account yahoo

My password is correct, my caps lock is not on, My yahoo mail works on my ipad and on my iphone and for the yahoo account I am receiving mail on my iMac, but when i try to manually refresh or send an email it keeps saying "Mail can't connect to the account "yahoo" and it asks me for my password, then the box pops up again 10 seconds later.

Boom!

Here is a tip, which helped me out.
Yahoo settings don't allow mail app to run it. In order to solve it, do the following: Go to Yahoo mail account in browser - point mouse on gear sign at the upper right - choose "Account information" - go to account inf. - scroll down and check "allow apps that less secure sign in".

Yahoo do not provide free access in a mail client, POP or Imap. You need a Yahoo+ account. (Or a different email provider)


They do provide free access to IOS and Android devices, just not PC's and Macs.

Since I currently don't have a Mountain Lion install on my Mac Pro having upgraded my primary OS to Mavericks (but finding performance on certain very important applications abysmal and subsequently reported as a bug), I booted into my older 10.7 Lion (I regularly sync all my data to this partition as part of my backup strategy), added my Yahoo account (when I was using this OS version exclusively, Apple had not yet incorporated an easy option to add a Yahoo account to Mail, or I just never noticed that option) and have not had a single, dreaded connection issue to Yahoo e-mail thus far (knock on wood), with nothing else being changed on my iPad and iPhone (both setup to access the same Yahoo account).


So could it be something to do with Mountain Lion and/or Mountain Lion Mail (whether it's a Yahoo and/or Apple compatibility issue)?


I miss the full iCloud integration of Safari with 10.8+ so eventually I will go back to one of the newer OS's. But for the time being, I'm enjoying unfettered access to my Yahoo (standard) account through mail on 10.7 Lion.

I am being driven nuts by the same problem when using Mac Mail on my MacBook Pro (running OS 10.8.4) with having the error message telling me that Mac Mail cannot connect with Yahoo. Following the discussion thread, I have found that it gives a momentary respite to go to Apple preferences ... mail ... select the Yahoo account, click "Details," clear the password window and then put in the Yahoo PW. The account accepts this. Then I go to the error message screen and put in the Yahoo PW. The error screen then goes away and my Mac Mail downloads my current Yahoo mail. That is fine for about 10 minutes, and then the error message returns and the process has to be repeated. We seem to be wedded to Yahoo through our internet provider (AT&T), so getting rid of Yahoo is not an option. Is there a way to make this "fix" stick? If not, I may have to abandon Mac Mail.

I have the same problem with 10.8.4 and with a Yahoo! Plus account. It is intermittent... will make me crazy for a few hours or a couple of days, then go away and not recur for a week or two. When it happens, nothing I can think of (quit mail, reboot, delete/recreate account, etc.) seems to help.


Full disclosure, I am a computer professional but new (less than a year) on Mac, so there may be a lot of things I do not think to try! 🙂

Do you work for Yahoo or something? All your responses specific to the issue at hand has strictly been playing up Yahoo Plus.


No one has responded in the affirmative of using Yahoo Plus. And my experiences indicate that Yahoo regular works just fine outside of 10.8 presently. And the majority of users complaining of this issue in this thread had been accessing Yahoo through Mail successfully before.

I have the problem too since four weeks with my yahoo email. It is indeed ridiculous to have it and I don't understand that Apple doesn't fix it! My IMac 27 inch is three months old.


The yahoo email is not mentioned in my Mail Accounts only my Hotmail email (pop).


Would you please so kind to tell how to get my yahoo email again on my IMac without trouble and without interfering with my hotmail which is working fine. I am now 3 months on IMac/Apple so brand new.

Then the problem has nothing to do with Mail, the account is not even on your computer.
