Album Artwork missing after iTunes 11 update

After updating my iTunes to the latest version, much of my album artwork has gone.

I spent MONTHS adding over 700 CD's to my collection and during this time spent countless hours online searching for correct artwork where missing and adding to the library. I have had no problems with this for over a year until this update.

Highly annoyed....

I'm sorry, but I hate the new itunes. I am using a Windows 7 computer and the new itunes not only deleted many of my album covers, I cannot seem to find the album cover view in the lower left hand corner I loved so much. I can click on a song and the album would show in the bottom left hand corner. Now, it's gone. Come on, Apple, bring back the other itunes. When I have spare time, I will be upgrading BACK to 10.7. I cannot believe someone was paid to develop such a heinous and buggy and downright horrible itunes program. I don't like the grid because it is only showing the albums, without covers might I add, so I use list mode. I do like the click, split screen idea showing all the songs in the album, but everything is much laggier, slower, ridiculous, missing, etc. Need I go on? Can someone tell me how to get the album art in the bottom left corner? Is it gone from the new and unimproved itunes 11? Can someone help me get this program to work? I love Apple, but I am extremely disappointed in the direction they are heading.

I, too, have been upset by this loss of artwork and my screens look remarkably similar to yours. I wrote twice to feedback and have written several posts in the forums but as for being a 'known bug due for update', knowing Apple, I'll believe that when I see it.

The company promotes iTunes is the ultimate authority in music ... and yet the album artwork, a significant historical element, can simply be discarded.

We know that the artwork exists elsewhere in the system, despite the unsubtle message that it 'could not be found' yet it seems beyond the wit of the technocrats to resolve. Says much for progrmming ability at Infinite Loop or wherever they farm out the responsibility to.

BUMP. We need all the exposure we can get with this one.

BUMP again!

I think this is ridiculous. Surely Apple has a hard drive of music they can test thier software on before release?? I'm on a current system, current Mac OS, with the current iTunes and embedded album art, album art that is read when you look at the file in Finder, can't be read by iTunes except at random??? Are you kidding? That amounts to releasing a beta program, not a final version. Its disgusting. It's very...hmmm, dare I say it...Windows-like of Apple to start doing this. Well, I guess we can welcome Apple as the next dysfunctional mega-corporation as this seems to be becoming more and more prevelant. Fix it!!! I didn't spend months embedding album art into my music so that my computer could ignore half of it at random.

Probably with an enormous amount of trouble. If the artwork fault is a deliberate act on Apple's part (and I would not be surprised if it was) you can bet your life it would have been designed to frustrate.

Oh, and Andrea119, I can make no progress with your right click message. I am currently on the iTunes store (Library screen). Sitting beautifuully in the panel in the top left hand corner is an album cover (in this case Alison Moyet) and as part of the slider recording the playing time is a smaller version.

But still > File > Library > Get album artwork produces the message "Could not get artwork'. And try as I may, I cannot 'lift' the illustration and place it elsewhere.

There has to be a logical, all embacing, straightforward way of doing this ... and it has to rest with relating the artwork to a combination of the song and singer. It is not rocket science; it's called programming.

There are many threads about it but in short

1. back up

2. I used appzapper (free) to remove itunes and all associated files it has

3. Download the dmg for 10.7, open it and place it on pacifist to install

4. Select overwrite all when prompted by the installer

5. Rename the current itl library file to something else

6. Open the newly installed iTunes using option to choose a library file that was previously used before iTunes 11

7. Library is back ( may be missing things you added/edited while using 11 )

Use at your own risk. It worked for me a couple of times but I must have messed up the last time and had to create a new library the last time, thus losing playlists, ratings and play counts. No biggy, but annoying.

Now happily back using 10.7 ( it isn't perfect but nowhere near as bad as 11 )

So...my art is back for no reason at all. my iTunes match is churning away at about 150 songs a night. I've been leaving it alone and today I took a look at all of my Atmosphere albums, of which nearly all had missing cover art. All of the art that is embedded in the files is now appearing when it wasn't for several days. This is true throughout the library. I have not run any updates at all other than to install a newer Acrobat Reader version. Super weird and quirky bug, but at least the issue seems fixed for me.

Sounds like I'm having the same issue, although I've had iTunes 11 since December. No issues at all with missing album artwork until this morning, when a good portion of my artwork just disappeared. Changing the album artist and then renaming it works, but I have far too many files to go through this manually. Get on it, Apple!

I am a relatively new iMac owner and still learning how various things work iin Apple world. I had just got to grips with iTunes 10.7 and was pretty happy with it. I have now downloaded iTunes 11 and am SO frustrated with it! My library was suddenly empty; playlists all wiped, everything missing. It took me ages to get some of it back, but the majority of artwork is missing. I can"t get it to return, what do I do????

itunes 11 seems much harder to use, looks awful and is really disappointing. Come on Apple, win me over for god"s sake.
