Album Artwork missing after iTunes 11 update

After updating my iTunes to the latest version, much of my album artwork has gone.

I spent MONTHS adding over 700 CD's to my collection and during this time spent countless hours online searching for correct artwork where missing and adding to the library. I have had no problems with this for over a year until this update.

Highly annoyed....

Got the solution.

  1. Save the album in another folder.
  2. Just delete the album from itunes.
  3. Copy it back into itunes.

Your artwork, if it existed in the original folder will be back.

If deleting the above is too cumbursome, just delete the whole itunes music and copy it back. Remember to copy it somewhere safe first.

I was strugling with this until i found a solution just now. (note i'm using windows, not sure if this applies to macs as well)

based on what i saw the artwork is still imbeded in the file, itunes just isn't showing it correctly. i found that if i right clicked on an individual song, set the tab to "artwork" it will show the correct artwork even if it isn't showing in itunes album view.

you can do either one or all of the ff:

1.)

go to music

select all songs (ctrl + a) right click (while all songs are selected),

select "get album artwork"

some will be fixed right off the bat, however for obvious reasons if itunes doesn't recognize the song, you won't get your artwork

2.)

go to music

select the songs view (so all songs will be listed)

right click the top most song

select "get info"

click on the artwork tab

then click next until you go through all the songs

i found that viewing the artwork and clicking next somehow refreshes the artwork for itunes.

this doesn't work for all though

3.) when all else fails: do it manually

go to music

select the album view (so you see which album doesn't have an artwork)

select a single song from the album

click on the artwork tab / copy the artwork, click ok

now select all songs from the album

select "get info"

paste the artwork to the lower right hand side (it says artwork)

then click ok.

hope this helps, been scratching my head over this for weeks.

Hi there.

I've been struggling with this, but it's EASY. I think it can be set to auto, but I am doing a huge RIP of my CDs.

So, I view it in Album mode, and then click the top left one, drag down and click the last one, RIGHT CLICK on any of them, and select 'Get Album Artwork', and it will start.

Some may say "cannot be found", because of age or availability, but it works. 🙂

Kaske's method works for me in Windows 8.1, but with one crucial note: you MUST be in the "My Music" tab or it won't work. At first I was doing this in the "Playlists" tab and getting nowhere.

That said, this is absolutely ridiculous. There should be an easy way to rebuild your library without losing/exporting/importing playlists and preferences. I find artwork disappears with disappointing regularity, and the "Get Info" dialog is a poorly-designed mess (if you don't press Shift before selecting it.) The UI issues and reliability problems that have been consistently ignored in 11 are key reasons I have not upgraded to 12. I guess being at the top means there's no incentive to improve or fix your product.

This is how I resolved this annoying issue in my iTunes 12...

Go to grid of albums and go to every album that is missing artwork - right click - get info - artwork - and than click on artwork image (if there is one attached)... click OK after that and it will reappear.

Here is a screenshot showing the selected artwork...

Hope this helps you guys!User uploaded file
