iTunes 11 Movies/TV Shows no artwork when purchased

This has me a bit stumped...

This has only started since I upgraded to iTunes 11 but I want to see if others are having the same issue or it's just me.

Since the upgrade if I purchase a movie or TV show on my Mac the artwork disappears when the download has finished, during the download I can see the artwork fine but as soon as it finishes it's gone. If I go into 'Get Info' the artwork option is greyed out.

Now, if I delete the Movie/TV Show from iTunes but keep a copy in iCloud the artwork reappears. So it would appear that anything stored in iCloud the artwork is fine but if downloaded locally then the artwork is not downloaded.

Has anyone else the issue?

I'm also plagued with this issue, as well as other problems with the latest version of iTunes (11). Not only artwork disappears, but also the same happens to other information concerning TV series. Sometimes the "season" info vanishes; sometimes the entire details for the show will become inaccessible.

I've been researching the cause and solutions for this issue and so far my best guess is that it's associated with having the library media set to a NAS drive. For some reason it fails to properly read the artwork information from the file, and as it caches this information, it will not display it until the file is reprocessed (like moving the file out and back into the library).

But I’ve also noticed that it only happens with iTunes 11 running it 64bits mode. Setting it to run in 32bits mode allows the correct access to the arwork file (not to some other missing data though).

  • Close iTunes (quit/force quit)
  • Set iTunes to start in 32bits mode
  • Open iTunes
  • Select one episode that is missing the artwork, open the “Get Info” dialog and voila! The artwork will be there. Press OK and iTunes will process it back and show it.
  • Repeat for other shows
  • Quit iTunes and revert back to 64bit mode

Hi,

This is not a solution.

I have more than 1000 movies, 9000 TV Shows and 25000 music tracks in my itunes library.

And I try to have it clean for each item.

So far it is ok for Movies and TV Shows. But every now and then I open my library and I have lost the display of the existing Artworks... I need to to a "get info" and only click "ok" nothing else... BUT this is not the solution.

For music it is far worse as sometimes it is completely mixed between albums... no covers, then covers, ...

I have found this that helps a lot: http://dougscripts.com/itunes/scripts/scripts13.php

My movie library always forgets the artwork because I keep it on a seperate hard drive. Same will hapen with music of you manualy add the artwork from another drive. If Itunes is started with the drive not powered on it will not load the artwork. Two things you can do. To have it display again select the movie or song press "command and i" at the same time and hit enter and the artwork will show. Or you can keep your media on a seperate drive but store your artwork in the music/itunes/artwork folder. If you move the artwork from your external drive you will need to mannualy choose the artwork file again from its new location.

I have this problem too with one of my recently downloaded TV episodes purchased on my iPhone. Also My Music,TV Shows and Movie artwork covers in iCloud seem to be showing on the wrong items. When I go to a song for example it shows the artwork for a TV Show I have purchased and when I go to a TV Show it shows a music item I have purchased. Can anyone help?

I have this problem too. My itunes library is stored on my NAS (Airport Time Capsule 2TB). I have tried all the work arounds here and nothing works. I havent been able to run in 32 bit mode, because I get a dialogue box stating that iTunes must be run in 64bit mode. Im running a macbook air OSX.

Has anyone had feedback from Apple on this issue. Very frustrating, i'm very OCD about keeping album and movie artwork correct, plus it looks cool too.

Apple really need to get on this asap.

I have the same issue with a few shows or movies. I have tried a variety of tweaks to the file via iTunes and Get Info in the Finder, however no solution I've tried works consistently.

I know we're trying to figure this out through iTunes in this thread, but for now I will suggest the Subler app.

By closing iTunes, opening the troublesome file in Subler (no matter if it's on a local drive or NAS), adding the artwork via it's interface then saving the file -- I've overcome this glitch. This is not, however a viable method to batch fix your artwork woes but it has satisfied my needs absent a fix from Apple.

I was having this problem for a long time as well. What I did to resolve the problem was I would get info on each movie, then go the Artwork tab, and if there was an image there I would click ok and the image would appear for the video. I keep all of my Apple movies and music on a seperate drive to use offline, so this was an issue since the beginning. Unfortunatly you have to do it for each item, individually, which takes a long time if you have a lot of artwork. Luckily it was only bothering me for the videos, so it only took a few minutes for me to get it done. Also, didn't have to use another program.

I have had this issue also, I have found a fix that might help, you can go to this site and get http://www.southpolesoftware.com/iVI/iVI.php if the files are already converted to mp4 or apple compatible format you can copy the video file to your library. Start the program and drag and drop all your files with missing information and open in the program it will automatically get all the video information and than save changes and than itunes will pick up the changes. I will usually for my own personal ripped videos, copy my file to my NAS and do this process before adding to iTunes. This will even convert to ipad, iphone, apple tv formats and works great, its a wonder how much better windows is than mac on getting the information for your library.

I used this method, TimSto, with Subler. I got the artwork to show up in iTunes for a downloaded .mp4 film. I have my iTunes library stored on a NAS connected to a router. However, when I Home Share my library with my Apple TV, it will show the artwork when the film is selected at first, then if I scroll to something else and go back, the artwork is gone and only shows that "Admit One" ticket picture for the film instead of the poster for it. Bummer.

Wow, I thought I was the only one with this issue, because I have all my media stored on an external HDD and I share it occassionally between MAC's and a laptop PC, so some of the movies/tv shows' artwork (purchased or ripped) were gone in iTunes.

I found out (the hard way) as mentioned above, to go to each title and do the "get info + OK" workaround to have the artwork to re-appear, but when I put the HDD back on the PC and accessed the movies from my aTV; some of the titles were with missing artwork...again.... back to square one!

Since I got tired of doing command+I and OK for each title, I just did it once more and decided to back up the iTunes/iTunes Library.itl file to my desktop, and from time to time I have to replace the iTunes .itl file before opening iTunes to have all my artwork to show back up automatically.

It's a tedious process, but for me, it certainly is faster than going through the whole library again to fix the artwork.

It is important to mention that this file records some data relevant to your activity on iTunes like the times you play every song/movie, rankings, etc (who knows what else...) so if you do this, you'll have the data to the point where you last backed it up; but I can live with that for now, until someone from apple have mercy on all of us and throw in a final fix in one of the many updates they often do! (well, first they need to read this thread, which is kind of impossible I think, as it's been posted for over a year and we're still writing.....)
