My reply was to NeilStandard.. Try it !! it worked for me!
I am having a similar problem. I have an iPod Classic 80Gb with a brand new computer using iTunes11 on Windows 8.
iTunes sees the iPod on the Sidebar, but when I try to sync or change any settings, roughly half the time it will crash my windows and cite a WDF Violation error. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to it. Regardless, even if it doesn't crash, it won't sync. It gets as far as "Starting Sync" and then it just stops.
I have verified that the iPod still syncs fine on my old xp machine, and I have tried the following, all to no avail.
Enabling Disk use
Converting higher bit rate songs to 128 kbps AAC
Deleting and reinstalling the iPod's drivers through device manger
Running iTunes in XP SP3 compatibility mode
Running iTunes as Administrator
At one point, with disk use enabled and 128 kbps bit rate selected, I managed to get it to prompt me to Erase and Sync. it went on to erase everything on the iPod, but would not load any of my media back up. Subsequent attempts to sync gave the same result.
I am getting extremly frustrated with this. Someone please help make it better !?!
i fially have mine working again, 2 trips to the apple store and 8 hours of reloading everything twice...1st i saved my liberary, second you need to follow the steps for removing itunes and all of it's componets from your computer, there are steps for removing them in a certain order, follow the steps... it took me two tries to get itunes off correctly and completly. After removing itunes and restarting the computer, look up loading itunes 10.7 from the apple site and go from there, i am using windows 7, but 10.7 was working with wndows 8 before the upgrade to itunes 11...the whole process will take a few hours so just be patient and don't try to make it go faster then it goes. i guess it could take a lot less time depending on the size of your liberary. if you use playlists, you will need to back those up too, unless you use the icloud for itunes. it finally works just fine, home sharing works fine too, just make sure you turn off the automatic update option or you will wake up with itunes 11...good luck, i hope this helps.
Right click "computer" then Properties. then "Devices" for me the Ipod show a "yellow" triangle with an exclamation mark. Right click on the Ipod and "uninstall" the driver. I can't remember but you may have to reboot to make it stick. Then it worked great. Do not allow Itunes to automatically update. Hope this works for you. I can't remeber but I may have had to have my Ipod plugged in.
😟
Victory!
As Tomm8tx (thank you!) mentioned above, I found the article here on Apple's support pages with instructions for completely removing iTunes, and after backing up, I did so and installed version 10 which can also be found on the search window at the top of the page here.
It is syncing.
Finally.
AND I have Cover flow back! Everything's coming up aces!
Been having same problems too. Last night Feb 15 I disconnected from my itunes on my work computer and attached to my integrated controls for my car,
Says 0 songs on it.. nothing. Yet the memory says I have 19.5 gb available. Tried restting in iTunes 6x at home. nothing.. finally it said it took.. then same error msg came up.
Anyone else had this problem?
pls resond to vayne1@yahoo.com if you can. I may have to spend my day at the Apple store w a tech. Been having nothing but issues w this since Steve jobs passed.. no bull. The day he died, it started not holding a charge. It's only 5 yrs old.
Thanks
I have tried everything. I am fed up with Apple. I am going to stop with the Apple way. I am going to convert all my apple losseless song (15.000) to a windows format. With pain in my heart, because it took 10 years to come so far. Thanx 4 all the input, but it is not going to work. For people who want to buy an ipod classic ... I have one 4 sale.
I solved my problem by unchecking "Manually manage music and videos". When I uncheck that it said "are you sure? Everything will sync." And I was like, duh...yes.
Hi Jeff, where do I find enable disk to un check it please as I am having the same problem syncing ipod classic with version 11. Thanks Jmighte1
I'm also having this problem. You would have thought by itunes 11 this kind of major screw up wouldn't be possible? I just want to listen to my music!!
This was the best thread i could find to help with my ipod issue. My ipod classic is recognized by the most current updated itunes but when i go to sync it, it syncs for a second and says sync complete but no music is synced. Keeps doing this. Ive restored the ipod twice. Any advice or anyone know what Im talking about?
Thank you very much I've been searching for an answer for 2 days now :) works great now
