Hello all! First post but I too was having trouble loading music to my iphone with itunes (never a proper sync...setting aside disk space for media but only loading one or two songs out of ten, etc.) and noticed I wasnt alone. My solution was to find alternatives to itunes application. I hope it's proper to mention such things on Apple's website. In the past I have used SharePod, which WAS freeware now it's NAGware. BUT I recently found a little app called CopyTrans Manager, which is freeware, no nags, and no bulls**t. [copytrans(.)net] There are other related apps which I havent looked at and cannot comment on. But CopyTrans Manager allows you to add or erase songs without any hassels, just a point&click or drag&drop. Simple. Mental health restored! Remember the good old days when Apple was the definition of minimalist elegance, functionality, and stability? Oh Steve we already miss you!

Yes, I purchased a lot of music on my iPhone so manually managing my music (and potentially losing the music that I purchased on my phone) was not a good option. I think I reset my phone and then added the music I wanted from iTunes into a playlist. I then chose to sync only that specific playlist. That finally did the job. I'm going to look into the apps SamClemens mentioned. Apple seems to have lost its intuitive edge. Don't even get me started about the mechanism to decline an incoming call when my phone is in LOCKED mode!

OK, so I was having the same problem, essentially. Finally, after reading this thread, and unsuccessfuly attempting to fix it, I managed to get it working. Here's what I did:

(I'm not sure that all of these steps were necessary, but this is it anyway)

1. Turned off iTunes Match on the iPhone. I know that this is scary for some of the people here, so I'm not sure that this will be all that helpful. If not, I'm sorry.

2. Quit iTunes.

3. Restarted iTunes.

4. Clicked iPhone.

5. Clicked on Music.

6. Clicked on Selected playlists, artists, etc. in the top Sync Music box.

7. Selected playlists, artists, whatever.

8. Clicked Sync at the bottom.

9. Everything worked. I think. I haven't been able to check everything, since I added a LOT of music. But what I have looked at is indeed where it is supposed to be.

I hope this helped at least someone.

Had the same problem. Talked to a techie person in a Mac reseller. According to him, updating IOS directly on the phone may result in some corruption of the software. The best thing to do is to update via the iTunes in the computer.

To overcome he problem, you can try this:

1. Manually back up iPhone into the computer

2. Then, it the Restore button. This will completely delete everything in your iphone (Do make sure you have backed up your phone!!) and the latest version of IOS will be installed. This may take a few minutes.

3. When this is complete, and the iphone icon pops up again, you will have two options: 1. Set up as a new iphone or 2. Restore backup.

4. Hit the restore backup button. This will take a few minutes.

5. As far as I can tell, all my previous data (contacts, photos, etc were back in the phone.

6. More importantly I can now drag and drop music from the itunes in my Mac directly into my phone

7. YESSSS!!!

So this issue was extremely frustrating for me but I figured out a way to add new music to my iPhone.

You have to click on your iTunes "Album" tab and drag an album to your "iPhone" droplist.

From there, you can add any other songs to the "album list."

Once you are done, click "iPhone" and go to "on this iPhone."

On the very bottom, it should say "autofill from" and you pick the playlist that has your new songs

Lastly, click "Autofill" button on the far right bottom corner.

My music was syncing for me and I hope it works for you all as well!

Happy Holidays!

I dont want to sync!

I dont want worthless crap on my computer from my phone. I just want it as simple as drag and drop.. stop putting red circles everywhere when I try to do it!

Your getting in the way of the customer trying to do something as simple as transfer from itunes to an i device.. Steve was about simplicity, yes control, but simplicity.. the simplest way your users are trying to get their bought songs - audio books to their i devices is drag and drop.. make this possible.

Control to keep out the crap = good. Purposefully getting in the way of your users functionality.. causing endless frustration and wasting hours of time, including this post.. = bad

thanks,

Steve and Apple fan

oh and 'manually manage music and videos' only worked after I broked down trying for 2 hours and synced..
