I love it when you think you are talking to Apple on this community forum that Apple hosts. You're not.

I love it when you invoke SJ's name as if he were a demi-god.

I am having a problem syncing since iTunes 11.1, and just got off the phone with with a tech from Audible. I have now spent about 10 hours with techs from Apple, Audible and Overdrive. I have spent about 20 hours reading tech blogs and this commmunity and other forums.

And I now have an a solution to my issue. It is not one I like, but it should resolve it. What have you guys done to resolve your's, besides whine?

Sure, in fact I didn't have to waste 30 hours, or call anyone to the rescue...I simply googled the issue and was able to resolve it in 5min :)

So you're saying that whatever you post on this 'forum that Apple hosts' will stay unnoticed? I suggest you try swearing.

Surely, Tim Cook is not a regular, but there are other people at Apple who do read this. And by the way, instead of posting in here in such a childish way, why didn't you share what the solution was? FYI there is no need for 's in yours as it already conveys possession, let alone it's genuinely illiterate.

To the rest of you, after Apple replaced my hard drive on my Mac Air, iTunes decided I needed to sync, so in an untypical for Apple bad wording, iTunes suggested I should 'erase and sync' my iPhone with this library. Well, it did not erase it!!! This message is only relevant to your music library - not your entire iPhone contents - and rest assured it does not delete anything you have purchased from iTunes. After this, I am again able to drag and drop to my heart's content. Don't know if this will resolve your issue too, but my assumption is that their software update is bugged and 'erase and sync' will do the trick.

Hope this helps!

Aw, we have a troll, here.

I noticed your profile was opened Sep 22, 2012, but you seem to know a bit about this forum. Been here before, possilby with a different profile?

Yes, Apple does monitor it. But they won't respond in most cases, so you are basically speaking to other users.

I don't need to swear to express myself. If you solved it why do you need to whine?

Was the itunes sync your problem?

Childish? The problem I am having is also with syncing, and is on the web, but no fix or workaround listed there worked for me. It is apparently new, at least as to what caused my problem and the old fixes don't work.

And it turns out that what I thought was a fix actually causes more problems. So it was a good thing that I did not post it. After my previous post, I worked with a Senior Advisor, and the new additional problem has broken my previous workarounds.

Oh snap Sherlock, you got me!!! Not really - you don't need to be a genious or have a lot of experience to know general facts about forums, it's common sense really :))) I'm not here to rub it in other people's faces, so as far as trolling is concerned the only troll I see here is you, because you keep insisting that people are here to whine when the only thing people are here for is to find a solution to their problem, so if you don't like it you can hit the 'stop email notifications' button in the top right corner - and before you get too excited how I got to know this, I simply used my brain...

Now, if you'll excuse me, I'll stop the email notifications as I'm done here so don't bother replying.

Good luck!

guys ive figured it out. when you click on a song in your library you want to add to your device, there should be a little arrow right next to the title of the song once you've clicked it.

click on the arrow > click add to... > click your device

you can do with whole albums too 🙂

apple really need to stop overcomplicating these things and go back to the old itunes, it was so much easier to deal with. Hope this helps 🙂

I have itunes 11 with iphone 5 ( daughter's phone). Previously able to drag & drop music from itunes library onto her device. Now , it is not allowed (shows a red circle with line through it). These are not songs that were purchased through itunes, they are mostly mp3's.

I have tried right clicking onto the arrow by the song and selecting "Add To" but that does not work. Tried doing a Sync, that does not work. Tried converting the song to AAC & adding, does not work.

I have seen one solution mentioned , to select "Manually manage music". The huge problem with that: a warning box comes up saying that everything on her phone will be erased!!

So in order to add a couple of songs onto her phone, we have to erase EVERYTHING on her phone?? That makes no sense? Any advice appreciated.

Wow, thanks so much for this blog. I had the same problem. What the **** is UP with Apple? The only thing that worked for me, after much frustration, was to add my music to a playlist and then to sync only that playlist with my iPhone. Before reading these posts I tried to sync just the songs I wanted but that didn't work. Nope, I had to somehow psychically know to add them to a playlist. Turning off iTunes Match didn't do a thing for me since, well, it was already turned off. 🙂 This is a crock. Apple: FIX THIS!

Hi

I got my daughter a new Iphone5 and she came up to me today with the same problem - when you try and drag songs from your music library across to your connected iphone, the red circle with diagonal line would appear, so you couldn't do it.

However, I just check the box for "Manually manage music" under the summary page and everything now works fine 🙂

Hope this helps!

Same, but the problem i'm having is it wont sync and everytime i try and click and drag a song in the phone the menu is there and everything but it just flashes and syncs,s skips step everything inbetween 1-5 and then takes at least five minutes to "Finish" My phone also deleted songs off my phone without me knowing. Now, I don't know what the actually flip is going on but i'm getting so angry at this S&!T

Hello all! First post but I too was having trouble loading music to my iphone with itunes (never a proper sync...setting aside disk space for media but only loading one or two songs out of ten, etc.) and noticed I wasnt alone. My solution was to find alternatives to itunes application. I hope it's proper to mention such things on Apple's website. In the past I have used SharePod, which WAS freeware now it's NAGware. BUT I recently found a little app called CopyTrans Manager, which is freeware, no nags, and no bulls**t. [copytrans(.)net] There are other related apps which I havent looked at and cannot comment on. But CopyTrans Manager allows you to add or erase songs without any hassels, just a point&click or drag&drop. Simple. Mental health restored! Remember the good old days when Apple was the definition of minimalist elegance, functionality, and stability? Oh Steve we already miss you!

Dead End Dreams~the problem with "manage music manually" solution is that it was not checked when my daughter first set up itunes...therefore, if we try to do that now, a box comes up warning that if we check manage manually all of the current stuff on her phone will be erased!!!...that is what the warning says so obviously my daughter won't let me do it....

Yes, I purchased a lot of music on my iPhone so manually managing my music (and potentially losing the music that I purchased on my phone) was not a good option. I think I reset my phone and then added the music I wanted from iTunes into a playlist. I then chose to sync only that specific playlist. That finally did the job. I'm going to look into the apps SamClemens mentioned. Apple seems to have lost its intuitive edge. Don't even get me started about the mechanism to decline an incoming call when my phone is in LOCKED mode!

I cant add music to my iphone in iTunes 11
