Cannot sort songs in itunes store by name or artist or album

I just downloaded the new itunes update. I see everything now looks different compared to the old version and not necessarily an improvement. However, my problem is as follows. If I search for an artist or song, the store will pull up a list of songs. After I select See All songs, I see a long list of songs. In the older version, I could sort the list of songs in a variety of ways. For example, if I selected artist, it would sort everything alphabetically by artist. If I sorted by name of song, it would sort the list alphabetically by song. In the new itunes, it does not seem possible to sort. If I click on name or artist or album, nothing happens - no sorting. I can't believe it makes any sense to remove the sort feature, so what is going on here and how can I correct it. If not correctable, is it possible to download the previous version of itunes, which worked just great.

Also, I noticed the new version does not give you the option "see other versions."

What if you wanted to sort by the most popular versions of a particular song title irrespective of artist, and there are 1000s of versions of that song, or perhaps quickly and easily look for the longer versions of a song? You simply can't do it anymore.

This also takes a lot of the fun away from discovering new music/artists etc.

It seems Apple just want to promote the major artists at the top of the search returns, maybe for a fee from the big record labels to get them near the top of the lists. Whatever the reason, it is not customer focussed and I don't believe it is simply a develpment error, as no company as large and as successful as Apple could accidentally miss out such a fundamental existing and popular function, and if they did miss it, that really is embarassing for the developers. However, even if missed months ago, Apple sure know about it now, and it's an easy fix, but we can see the change has still not been made, so we can also be fairly confident it's deliberate. My money is on some cynical commercial rationale. Hopefully one that has backfired.

All we can do now is boycott itunes and use alternatives, hopefully remove any possible commercial rationale for removing the sort function, and at the same time complete the feedback form already linked on this thread. If enough people make their voices heard, and vote with their wallets, then maybe (a very small maybe) Apple with listen.

I am running iTunes 11.0.1. While in the iTunes Store, View->View Options does *nothing*, no dialogue, no submenu - nothing. But View Options is selectable from the menu. Odd that absolutely nothing heppens (including feedback that it has been selected). I even tried the keyboard shortcut listed in the menu (cmd-J). Nothing.

Still shopping elsewhere for music. It's too bad. I actually liked the iTunes store until they broke it in iTunes. Now it is unusable.

Interestingly following the discussion about individuals actively avoiding quickly upgrading to Apple's latest software for fear it will make the status quo worse or remove functionality you like, as has happened with this terrible new iTunes software, I have been avoiding the constant messages asking me to 'upgrade' my iphone's iOS software, since I've been happy as is, and surprise surprise tonight I get a text from my provider saying 'if you've not already downloaded iOS 6.1 for your iphone 4s, please hold off for the next version while Applie fixes 3G performance issues.'

Hey -

Thought I would share that I've found a site I like - it's a bit more expensive (maybe?) but it has more choices for playing with music, sorting and genre options.

It's called Beat Port

or Sound Cloud and of course Spotify (and you can opt out of the posting to facebook all the songs you've purchased or listened to) are more options for you to explore.

Good luck!

Please confirm that the "sort" feature has indeed been restored to the iTunes store in the latest version of iTunes. Please kindly confirm that if you search for a song in which there are a hundred versions, you can sort the list by artist name or album name. Also, confirm that if you search for an artist, you can sort the songs by song name (alphabetically). To be clear, I'm talking about the iTunes store, not the songs you have already downloaded into your library. Finally, confirm that if you find a song you like, you can click on the price button to search for "other versions." I do not want to download the latest version and lose the sort feature I find invaluable.

It's been rectified to a certain extent..just enough to keep us on the hook, but I feel manipulated and betrayed by them and that will take quite some time to make amends for that infraction. On the up side, I have found many places to search and have a great time with music as iTunes STILL will not uncap the bottle and allow the broad and wide ranging seach options that were once a scream to use, and that I spent many hours perusing (and mucho money). If you enter a search in the search box and it's not EXACTLY correct, it produces zero results. I used to put words in there so that they would hit on anything that had that word in it and I found the coolest, most off beat tunes and it was just so darn fun and opened my eyes to the zillion genre's of music out there. I use MIXCRATE and SOUNDCLOUD now. Good luck one and all. Rock on!

I bit the bullet and downloaded the latest version. While you can "sort", I see you still cannot click on the purchase button to search "other versions" of a song. I used this feature all the time to find interesting versions of songs by other artists. That's a real shame. It was a great feature and I miss it. It certainly got me to buy songs I might not otherwise find.
