The SIM is NOT used to connect to a CDMA network. It is used to connect to a GSM network.
You have absolutely NO IDEA what you are talking about.
naw really?
I think it's likely that the people Verizon's A1429 on China Telecom are using it just as a 2G phone. Of course, my understanding is that you can use Verizon A1429 on China Unicom as a 3G GSM phone, just as you can use it as a GSM phone in the US on AT&T or T-Mobile.
That was not the point... The poster was claiming it could be used on a CDMA network other than Verizon. It can't. Please READ the thread before posting.
Careful, Walmart phones with straighttalk are without a contract but *ARE NOT* unlocked.
From StraighTalk support
"It shows that your phone is a Straight Talk iPhone. You cannot use a “Bring Your Own Phone” SIM card in it. The iphone is a CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) phone and it does not use a SIM card. BYOP SIM card would not work in it."
My Verizon phone uses a sim. I had to swap phones and all I did was move the sim to the new phone. Never contacted Verizon when I changed phones. Without the sim the phone will NOT work as it fails to find a carrier.
Both your statements would be wrong. My Verizon phone requires a sim from Verizon.
Hi Kiddo
I bought recently bought a iPhone 5 (CDMA network phone). I was told that this phone would not work with a tmobile sim. I see that you were able to make it work. Can you elaborate how?
Thanks!

Hi,
I would like to clarify something... I recently bought a iPhone 5 (CDMA network phone). I was told that this phone would not work with a tmobile sim (even if the phone is unlocked).... Is this true?
Thanks!
Sha
That depends on what CDMA network it was made for. If it was made for Verizon, it will work with any GSM SIM card from a compatible network. If it was made for another US CDMA carrier, it will not work with any US network other than the one it was made for.
It was made for the Sprint network. From what Apple chat support advised... I would have to reach out to Sprint directly and request the phone be unlocked. Which is unlikely because I am not a paying customer.... I can also purchase an unlock code from the Web, I fear spending money on an unlock code wont help if the phone I am unlocking wont support the Tmobile Sim/Network.
A third option I came across today is a r-SIM. Which is a small microprocessor that sits under the actual sim and tricks the phone into thinking its an international carrier (not sure if you've heard of that before).
Sprint will only unlock it for use on non-U.S. carriers for current Sprint customers in good standing.
As for purchasing an unlock code from the web, no, you can't. NO ONE but the carrier it's locked to can authorze unlocking it. Anything else is a hack, a ripoff, or flat out illegal.
The r-SIM is also illegal to use in every country on the planet, as are the Turbo-SIM, Gevey SIM, X-SIM, and all their ilk.
The ONLY legitimate option to you would be to get it unlocked by Sprint. If you want to use a US carrier, then you absolutely bought the wrong phone. Sell it to someone who can use it and buy a phone you can use instead.
