Purchases are tied to the Apple ID account that was used to make the purchase or download forever, until Heck freezes over. So as long as apps that were downloaded with an Apple ID reside on the phone whenever they update you will be prompted for the password associated with that Apple ID. The only way around this is to delete all apps that were downloaded with the old Apple ID. If you still want those apps you will have to purchase or download them using the new Apple ID.

That's why you should never get a new Apple ID. If your email changes you need to change the Apple ID to match the new email, not create a new Apple ID account.

You also didn't notice that the post you responded to was made almost 7 years ago. Nothing has changed since then.

So Michael Black by your logic a company that purchases third-party software would also have to pay for those licenses again if they changed their name. The issue with the Apple ID format being an email address where it should be a UserID that has the flexibility to update the user name when it changes is the problem. The email address dependency by Apple is so 1995 it's pathetic! Open source is the way of future because big business and their rigidity and proprietary systems makes everything so difficult and only suits their needs while not addressing the needs of the users that have supported them. Time to transform into a new paradigm.

In the multiple gig's of apps/videos/music I have purchased-- How do I find the songs associated with that old account?

Which in this case is an account from an old girlfriend 10 years ago where we shared some music... I have no desire to keep these songs -- but I am in the process of moving to a new phone and the pop-up to login to an account I don't have is ANNOYING!!! Had I known this was going to be this much of an issue, I probably would have purchased the Samsung!

We don't need to fix anything. You are not writing Apple. We are all users on this forum, none of whom work for Apple. You suggest you got a new device, yes? Why didn't you sign into the new device with the same Apple ID you had on the previous one? As has been noted over and over in this thread, Apps are tied to the Apple ID they were downloaded under. If you decided to create a new Apple ID, that's on you. There is really no reason anyone EVER needs to create a new Apple ID.
