Purchases are tied to the Apple ID account that was used to make the purchase or download forever, until Heck freezes over. So as long as apps that were downloaded with an Apple ID reside on the phone whenever they update you will be prompted for the password associated with that Apple ID. The only way around this is to delete all apps that were downloaded with the old Apple ID. If you still want those apps you will have to purchase or download them using the new Apple ID.

That's why you should never get a new Apple ID. If your email changes you need to change the Apple ID to match the new email, not create a new Apple ID account.

You also didn't notice that the post you responded to was made almost 7 years ago. Nothing has changed since then.

I have two accounts and would love to transfer everything into one account but what I am reading that is not possible. I am sure in 2019 it is possible but Apple doesn't want to help do this.. because they want you to re buy everything.

I can not sign into the old account because it won't let me.. every time get a new a code.. it doesn't work.

I am ready for a new phone but I am thinking iPhone is out of the question this time.

I have forgotten my old email password. I now have a new email address but the old one keeps popping up whenever I try to get an app so I can go no further because I've forgotten the password. I understand I can't delete my old email address but I would like to move forward with my new email address/apple id. How do I do this? Thanks for your help.

I agree. Apple needs to solve this problem. As much as this system costs, I shouldn’t have to do anything myself.

All this started when they began adding email extensions way back. With the old systems it still worked, but now it’s causing issues. I don’t have as much control over my ID as I used to either. In the beginning, we could delete our ID’s ourselves.

  • Apple - either fix this problem, or give us back our control.

This is a reaccuring issue for me, if we're not for my work I would never have an apple device however a recent change in jobs and eamil addresses I also no longer have access to my old work email meaning I can't get reset info sent to it. I have disabled the old account 3 different times however some apps continue to ask for the old ID login info. Currently I am stuck having to pay again for the only app I use all because apple some how associates that app with my old ID. Fun fun, wish someone could fix this.

I don't think I should have to go through all that trouble, Apple Support should be able to delete the Old ID and Install the new one for their customers.I have been to The Apple store in Tampa only for them to tell me I have to go on line, went on line,we are sorry you have to go to the store for them to download all my information and them restore it to my device and it MAY WORK THAT WAY!!! WHAT kind of help is that.

You cannot change an Apple ID that uses an icloud email account as its name to a 3rd party email address.

Details here: Change the email address you use as your Apple ID - Apple Support

If you use an @icloud.com, @mac.com, or @me.com email address as your Apple ID, you can’t change it to a third party email address. But, you can change it to an alias of your Apple ID address. For example, if j.appleseed@icloud.com is your Apple ID and you also have j.appleseed@me.com on file in your account, you can change your Apple ID to j.appleseed@me.com. When you change your email address, the Apple ID that people see when they share with you also changes.

This isn't necessarily true. For example, with our Adobe Accounts - we were able to move the accounts into a parent account and all that data merged into the new account. Another instance with Adobe is that we were able to merge two accounts with different email addresses into the most recent. Adobe does this for cyber security reasons to reduce the opportunity for hackers to gain access. Orphaned accounts can easily be spoofed/hacked.

You apparently either didn't read Michael Black's post or didn't understand it. Adobe OWNS the licenses for the products that were moved. And you said they were moved to a parent account. Apple DOES NOT own the licenses for apps and music. They are an agent for the actual copyright owners. And Apple doesn't have parent accounts. the account design is "flat" without a hierarchy.
