Purchases are tied to the Apple ID account that was used to make the purchase or download forever, until Heck freezes over. So as long as apps that were downloaded with an Apple ID reside on the phone whenever they update you will be prompted for the password associated with that Apple ID. The only way around this is to delete all apps that were downloaded with the old Apple ID. If you still want those apps you will have to purchase or download them using the new Apple ID.

That's why you should never get a new Apple ID. If your email changes you need to change the Apple ID to match the new email, not create a new Apple ID account.

You also didn't notice that the post you responded to was made almost 7 years ago. Nothing has changed since then.

And if you bothered to read the thread you posted to, you’d know that now you can request it be deleted. That will also delete everything you’ve ever purchased with it and any other data associated with it.

Instead you rant and give everyone the finger instead of just reading the solution posted just a page back in the thread. Do you always go around flipping off everyone?

So when my internet service provider goes out of business, and my (email address) apple id no longer exists, you are saying "**** you" go re-buy everything?? That is insane.

I'm in the music business.... you have no idea how copyright law works - or any clue about intelectual property.... both are transfered ( usually for a fee ) between organizations and individuals daily. It is totally legal for an individual who has purchased the "rights" to music or software, to retain ownership of those "rights" - you need to create a way for an individual user to merge their "rights" into one or many accounts - owned by them. ( or refund them when you delete their "rights" )

I have the same issue. However, the apple ID is so old it's only a Username, not an email address. When I go to try to unlock the account I'm not sure what email address is associated and when I try the security questions option there are 3 possible Birthday's, but none are correct. I just want the **** pop up to stop coming up on my new iPhone Xs. I've already downloaded all associated music/apps under my current Apple ID.

Just tell me how to stop the pop up on my new phone . . .

I have a lot of apps. How do I know which ones were bought under a older ID so I can delete them. My old ID's were tied to email accounts that no longer exist. There is no way I can get password reset for them. I agree with the previous comment that this is a problem Apple could fix. If I have to re-buy the apps anyway and deleting the old account takes away those apps bought with that ID then what's the difference? At lease let me delete that old ID so it does not keep popping up. That is really annoying.

I have the same very aggravating problem. I cannot update settings because of an old iCloud/apple id. I never wanted iCloud and never actively used it. I do not have the old password associated with the old id and so I can’t get in to do anything, especially change it. This is totally unacceptable from apple considering the many thousands of $ I’ve spent on these devices. What am I supposed to do? I have a credit balance in my itunes that i’ll probably lose if I delete the icloud account because it’s all hooked under one id. Smh!

Actually no it is not. My initial Apple ID was 1 word and then Apple FORCED everyone to create a new Apple ID using an email address. I even opened a support ticket at the time because I lost a lot of purchases and they said the purchases do not transfer for obvious reasons. So rather than be condescending please know what you are talking about or just don’t post.

The problem is now whenever I do a reimagine or I get a new phone, it sees the old Apple ID, but when I try to Reset the login it says the associated info is incorrect. I think I finally have removed all the associated apps with that id but it would be nice just to delete it outright.

Apple never required anyone to make a new AppleID when they transitioned to only emails as primary ID. My AppleID dates back 20 or so years now, and originally was just my name. When the required move to emails came about, all one had to do was edit their existing AppleID and change the name or word to a valid and verifiable email address.

I have only ever had a single AppleID, right from their very pre-cursor free developers account ID to now.
