Purchases are tied to the Apple ID account that was used to make the purchase or download forever, until Heck freezes over. So as long as apps that were downloaded with an Apple ID reside on the phone whenever they update you will be prompted for the password associated with that Apple ID. The only way around this is to delete all apps that were downloaded with the old Apple ID. If you still want those apps you will have to purchase or download them using the new Apple ID.

That's why you should never get a new Apple ID. If your email changes you need to change the Apple ID to match the new email, not create a new Apple ID account.

You also didn't notice that the post you responded to was made almost 7 years ago. Nothing has changed since then.

For what? I bought a used Macbook Pro, and while I have an administrator account on the machine and my own Apple ID, I cannot upgrade the apps without the previous owner's Apple password. This is uncomfortable for both me and the previous owner.

I have tried deleting the apps to reinstall them, but for some reason, it will not allow me to do that, either. Mostly, these are the applications that come with MacOS, such as Pages.

And again, Apple’s software is tied to the AppleID. It is not transferable so you would need to buy those yourself with your AppleID. The previous owner should have wiped the device clean of everything other than OS X itself.

When someone sells or gives away a hardware product, they should remove all trace of their own previous ID. Software licenses are not transferable. The previous owner had no legal rights to leave that there for your use.

If you have a connection with the old owner of the computer then you can have them log into their Apple ID and remove the laptop from their account then you can do a full wipe of the computer to factory settings and then like new

No tie to him. But first he must remove the computer from his Apple ID list online then wipe he computer. Apple Store can help you on the wipe after he disassociates from the computer

so even if i delete the email account i create my apple i.d account with the apple i.d account wont go away ? so are you telling me if i delete my email account and its put back in service someone else might have access to my old apple id account ? its a long shot but its possible !

No. When you create an AppleID, the email address you use is nothing more than the identifier for that AppleID. The email address can be defunct afterwards, but it doesn’t matter (other than the fact that unless you entered a rescue email, Apple cannot send you info to reset your password any longer).

And if someone else started using the exact same email as you had used, they’d simply get a message that this email was already an AppleID and they need to use a different email now if they try to create an AppleID. They cannot use that email address as your AppleID since they don’t know your password, your security questions, have no access to any of your trusted devices and so forth.

You can change the primary email (and rescue email) associated with your AppleID any time you wish. By simply changing the primary email (and NOT creating a wholly new AppleID), your account tracks with that change, so nothing is lost or altered.

they need to delete that device from their Apple ID through the 'find my phone' and should have deleted it's contents and have it reset to factory settings. Then you can start fresh. Here are the steps for the previous owner:

1)sign in to www.icloud.com using your Apple ID and password, then click 'find my phone'

2)turn off 'find my phone' using icloud

- click ALL DEVICES

- click the device you gave away

- click REMOVE FROM ACCOUNT

have them try this and hopefully it will work for you ... otherwise you will be forever connected to their Apple ID
