Ipad video brightness flare

I have recently purchased the new iPad (retina display, lightning port) when watching video with the auto brightness on or off I notice the screen brightness fades up and down quite regularly almost like a pulse if u will.

The best way to notice it is if your watching a video in widescreen with the ipad horizontal cover up the actually letterbox video so you are just looking at the black bar at the top, the colour of the black tends to gradually get lighter and then goes dark again I also notice this in the video itself but its easier to identify it by using the above method.

It can be really quite annoying I was just wondering if anybody else experiences this? Or is my ipad is dodgy? Another user posted about this problem back in march according to the post he actually swapped his iPad & the new iPad did the same thing, the discussion them ended seemingly unresolved.

It may depend on the length of time you are watching video before it happens I've also noticed it tends the happen more frequently when watch a video cutting between light and dark scenes.

All help would be greatly appreciated.

I have an iPad Air 2 and have the same issue. But since it doesn't happen with Netflix I became convinced it has something to do with the player and/or transcoding method. I tried several different 3rd party players and finally found that Infuse solves the problem. You may or may not need the pro version to stream/sync from your iTunes library -- I don't know because I have the pro version and am streaming from my Plex library. The official Plex app suffered from the problem, but not Infuse Pro when viewing the exact same files, so it has to do with the player. ***** that even Apple's native app has the problem, but for me at least, problem solved.

i suffer migraines and at first i believed it was me seeing auras from watching to long or a small screen.

after reading the comments it was giving me a migraine thinking about going to return it and then to have the same problem.

i did have auto brightness set on , tried taking it off, still flares.

someone mentioned its some sort of sensor to help with dark scenes. i had my iPad on the lowest brightness. cause i am light sensitive.

then i thought lets leave auto brightness on , and just turn the brightness level up so the sensor isn't trying to brighten every 5 seconds.

IT WORKED ! even on wide screen which i prefer .

i played with it a little bit and found the lowest brightness setting i could have without that f ing flare !

i would prefer a less bright screen , however i do love the iPad and don't have to return it now.

i am surprised a apple rep didn't post on this stream and figure this out !

anyways i hope i helped . i know with knowledge by genius's on this stream i was able to help myself keep the dang thing . that f ing flare was giving me headaches !

apple feel free to content me and trouble shoot problems on your team , or activision or world of warcraft . i would love to customer service and art !

thank you for creating this thread, and the amazing responses . problem solved 🙂

I contacted Apple recently and the rep did not know of this problem. It's weird. I bought an Air and returned it. Bought another one and it has the same problem. The problem with using assistive touch is that it is equally annoying to me. Doesn't the assistive touch icon just sit there? Has anyone figured out why this is happening? Ridiculous.
