Apple TV will not update

My latest gen Apple TV will not update it's software. It seems to download the update just fine and then goes to the "preparing update" screen. The progress bar on that screen gets about 90% of the way then I get an "update not successful" message. I have already restarted the device twice as well as unplugged it from the power supply twice and reconnected it before trying the update again. No effect.

Thanks,

Apple TV

As of May 5, 2013 this problem still exists. Disconnecting my ethernet and updating via WiFi worked for me. I cannot believe that Apple has not solved this problem yet, or why they don't tell you these sorts of things--especially if you've registered all of your products with them. I've been trying to install the update every couple of weeks for the last few months and was glad to find your solution quickly.

Well its Sep 19, 2013, my iphone 5 upgraded to IOS 7. I went to my apple TV and to my surprise it would not update, It downloads, starts to load, getting near 90% and then aborts (saying it could not update). I rebooted, rese, factory defaulted etc. Still with a wire in it, it sim did not allow the update. I read this thread in amusement, thinking its stupid to to even try the wireless. In frustration, I tried it.

To my amazement, the wireless update worked, The wired update would not work. I am so grateful to those who spent time working this out. I am also horrified that this thread is dated, yet Apple did absolutely nothing month, after month, after month and simply let it dangle in the wind.

I have a love/hate relationship with Apple. I will leave it up to you to know which side this issue fell.
