In iTunes 11, the entire running time of a playlist is shown. But how can I see the total time only for the tracks that I have selected within that playlist? This was possible before iTunes 11. Now it's gone.
For example in the screenshot, I have selected a few songs but I can only see the time of the entire playlist. There is no total shown for only the selected tracks.
Click on view, Show Status Bar, and the information will show up there.
eg on one of my playlists the heading at the top of the page shows it is 72 songs and 4.6 hours.
However if I select 10 songs from the playlist the the text in the status bar at the bottom reads
10 of 72 songs, 45.5 minutes, 105.2MB

I am only getting the decimal display......
In previous versions, if you clicked the Status Bar it would toggle between two different H:M:s dislpays and the decimal value. But I don't appear to have that available on the new version.....just the decimal value only.

You should be able to find a discussion of the "proper" way to do the uninstall so that you get rid of all of iTunes without losing your iTunes library files.
This doesn't really fix the problem, does it?
In past versions of iTunes, the total time of a playlist was shown in the Status Bar and could be toggled from a rounded total (e.g."1.2 Hours") to an exact total (e.g. "1:20:23")
In 'the new itunes', the total time length of playlists seems permanently fixed ion the broad value only. (e.g. 1.2 hours).
This is terribly inconvenient if one is going to be burning a PLaylist to a CD or DVD-A. Where 79 minutes would fit on a CD, 81 minutes will not.....yet 'the new itunes' will show both only as "1.2 Hours". Very inconvenient if one is now to be forced to manually add track times together in order to decide if a playlist will fit or not.
How do I get 'the new itunes' to show me a more useful total? Or has Apple now decided that we aren't going to burn CDs any longer? (Surely, by now you can figure out on your own what my opinion of that might be.)

And as I said......that only shows the truncated, general total time. What I am asking for is the precise Hours/minutes/seconds total that was a part of all previous versions...but is apparently missing now.

No...perhaps it is you who've missed the point. And, btw, *I* use what you're incorrectly labeling 'decimal' timings...true decimal timing would display 3:30 as 3.5.
Oh, wait a minute...APPLE uses decimal timings, apparently! And seems to think we all should as well.
And a more worthless bit of information there isn't.
OK....one more time.....if one is to burn CDs, one needs to know, sometimes to the second, the length of their playlist. 79 minutes 58 seconds is great....80 minutes 02 seconds is bad. The 'new itunes' dislays both as merely 1.3 hours. This information is worthless. If your Playlist doesn't fit.....wouldn't it be nice to know precisely why and what you might want to do to fix the matter?
All previous versions of iTunes would toggle this information in the Status Bar (see? I knew where that was)....this version does not seem to. Or...at least not in the same manner that it did. If it does, I am unable to find it.
Surely, I am not the only one who has ever run a playlist over by 3 seconds and wanted to know what went wrong?

In iTunes 10 you could toggle this value. In Itunes 11 you can't.
I suspect that there is a redundant preference in iTunes pList that is "stuck" with the old decimal value you had before you updated.
Well....certainly an interesting theory. I have never used the decimal display....as I said, more worthless and pointless a display there has never been.
BUT....I'm game to give it a whirl. So, how do I change it?

I used minutes seconds version under 10. Is there a hidden way to change date & time?

I suspect that it will make no difference, however. I tried it to no avail.
I have two other Macs running Lion and Snow Leopard. Both have the latest iTunes (11.0.1)....all of them have decimal time values only.
Kilima, I've no idea how you got an H:m:s display....unless perhaps you're still using an older rev. (or, perhaps...a beta version?) But I suspect that there is only supposed to be the decimal value.....and idiotic as that seems.

Hi Simon. A little update here (and a chance to say Merry Xmas). 🙂
Was on my PowerBook which I usually only use with Home Share. Went into SONGS and noticed that the Status Bar was showing decimal time (as you have). Clicked a selection and the time changed to HH:MM:SS
Wow, I thought, must show this to Simon. So I went out of SONGS to start over and take some screenshots. Now whatever I try, like you I can't get HH:MM:SS to come back.
SO. My conclusion is that there is supposed to be both, but that there is a bug which locks in decimal time once the bug has been triggered.
A little glimmer of hope on your dark, dark horizon ??

You could first try just trashing the current plist. iTunes will rebuild a new one.
