Do you see it in your Recently Added playlist and do you subscribe to iTunes Match?
https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4543259 - delay of several hours (for some people overnight) for new additions to iTunes to appear in the main library window as a result of using iTunes Match. Things to try:
1) Turn off Match, see if the items appear, then turn Match on again.
2) Drag the items from the Recently Added playlist to the library.
3) Wait until they do appear.
If you do not subscribe to Match, try restarting iTunes.
No iTunes match
And no Recently Added playlist
Have restarted and is not showing
I was having this exact same problem with importing downloaded mp3s. If you haven't yet, say no thank you to Match and then try again. It seemed to work for me.
iTunes match is off and still not showing some 16 hours later
I have also just noticed that despite this not showing iTunes 11 the imported CD is on my iPhone!
The CD has now shown up in my library after 24 hours. Thats not great to be honest!
i'm having the same problem as Bradf11. I imported 5 CDs. None of them show up in ITunes in album or artist categories. They will appear if I use "search". Also, if I try to reimport I am told they are duplicates. The CDs also show up on my IPhone-just not in I tunes. I have turned Match off and on, said "No Thanks" to Match, there is no "recently added playlist" to be found anywhere. I have tried everything that has been suggested to no avail. I am not new to importing CDs. Something is wrong with the program. I know they are in there somewhere. I just can't find out where. I subscribe to Match.
Wait 24 hours they will appear its clearly a bug in iTunes 11

Barely a fortnight after Apple unleashed iTunes 11 into the wild, the software's first notable update is making its way into OS X's Software Update. While only bumping it to v11.0.1, the refresh adds the ability to easily weed out duplicate items in one's iTunes library -- a feature that was mysteriously removed in the original move from iTunes 10 to iTunes 11. We're also told that it solves an issue where "purchases in iCloud may not appear in one's library if iTunes Match is turned on," makes the program as a whole more responsive when sifting through a vast music library, and solves a quirk where the AirPlay button may not "appear as expected."
Just updated to iTunes 11.0.1 and imported a CD normal service is now resumed!
I also updated to 11.1 and all of my newly imported music appeared! Thanks.
Great, I'm glad my posting the information about the update solved the question. Maybe I should have installed it too and really answered the question.
Am having the same problem, I just hate the new format. How do I know which version I have? I updated fairly recently in order to update my phone, which of course didn't work and took 24 hours and numerous reading of help threads!. When I open iTunes there is no notification of new software, so how do I go about downloading 11.1? I am not particularly computer savvy...
Are you on mac or windows if on Mac open the App Store if you are running Mac OSX Lion 10.8 or on Windows open Apple Software Update.
