Unable to install iTunes 11.0.1

Hi, I have iTunes 11 installed on my Mac, however I am unable to install 11.0.1, via Software update or the stand alone installer. Each method presents me with an error from softeare update or a simple "The installation failed" dialoge window in the stand alone installer. I've repaired permissions, restarted, shutdown the iMac, even downloaded them several times. I tried to remove iTunes 11 from the applications folder with no luck as the OS requires the app to be in place. any ideas?

TIA

Well I give up. I've just reinstalled mountain lion, after which I ran software update. This gave me a list of three updates: Safari, camera raw and iTunes 11.0.1. I clicked on the update button and after the download had finished I got the 103 error. Then I updated them one at a time to find all except iTunes 11.0.1 updated fine, again error (103). I'm back at square one

Delete the files in System HD > LIbrary > Updates.

Run Software Update again. Updates showed up again.

I got an install error and when checking for Software Updates and would get No Updates Available message in App Store app. System Preferences > Software Update read Updates Available, Show Updates. This didn't show any updates until I delete the files and rechecked for updates.

Thanks carlnunes, but no joy here mate. I have no trouble getting the update to show up in the App store, infact it came up again this morning when I woke my Mac up. In any case I still deleted the file you suggested and ran the Update again. Still the same error. I don't think there is anything wrong with the download or the App store, I think there's something screwy in my OS. Looks like I'll have to wait for 10.8.3.

Thanks for your input, appreciated mate

SOLVED!

This is what I did. I created a new Administrator account on my iMac. as soon as I logged into it the software update dialog poped up asking to update itunes to 11.0.1. Ok did that, but as usual no joy same old 301 error. Then I launced the downloaded version of iTunes 11.0.1 and found an error in the checksum. Strange as this same copy opens fine in my real account. So I downloaded a new copy of iTunes 11.0.1 from Apple's web site, ran that and to my surprise she installed without a hitch. Fixed. logged out, deleted the new account tested iTunes 11.0.1 and all is fine. Man I've been using Mac's sonce OS7 days and this is the hardest work that I've had to do in a long while.🙂

Glad to hear it mate. Tried your solution and still no love for me - now the update doesn't even show up in the app store even after deleting the files in the folder as suggested above. Strangely enough though, when I open itunes it still tells me a new version is available (11.0.1). Tried downloading the dmg three times and get failed checksum each time. 99% sure its not an internet connection/ISP problem (despite the nature of the error) as everything else on all my other devices is working as swiftly as ever. Can't seem to update Pages on the iPad though too (obviously also Apple software) so not too sure what's going on.

It's strange how the smallest of things can get on your nerves the most!

Too true man, I was hating my iMac because I was unable to update iTunes. Now iMac and I are happy again 🙂

In the App Store, hit 'Command R' to refresh the page, this worked for me to get the update to appear again.

As for the download if iTunes it should be 200.6 MB. I downloaded it from: http://www.apple.com/au/itunes/download/

This is the Australian site, but there's no reason you shouldn't be able to use it.

good luck dude, let me know how you go.

Mate, I have that very same issue with my MacBookPro and iPhone and iPad. The installation gave me the same error and I am now on my 4th download. iTunes "seems to work" except that I dont see my devices wen they are connected. So probably that installation is faulty... so far no way to solve it. First installation was automatic by MountainLion and the app update. since then all downloads gave the same problem

I used the directions at "How to reinstall iTunes without losing music" at http://smallbusiness.chron.com/reinstall-itunes-losing-music-53828.html to make a backup and "How to reinstall iTunes http://osxdaily.com/2011/09/13/delete-itunes-in-mac-os-x-10-7-lion/ to actually delete iTunes 11.0.1 with 11.0.2. The backup directions are for Windows but work for OS X also.

The installation was successful, but I still have the same problem that has been plaguing users for years:

"iTunes could not sync calendars to the iPad "my iPad" because the sync server faile to sync the iPad."

I have yet to find any advice for getting around this problem successfully. If Apple has posted a technical paper on this problem, I haven't found it yet.

With over 50 years of computing experience and 27 years of Mac experience, I have not found such a difficult problem since working on a particular mainframe problem in the early '70s.

At least Apple has stopped using "The computer for the rest of us" and "seamless operation".
