Iphone 5 and IOS 6.0.2 is draining my battery!

Beware IOS 6.0.2!!

I loaded IOS 6.0.2 yesterday. Unfortunately it only partially fixed my wifi issues (I already have several posts about my wifi issues). But, to my complete and utter frustration, it introduced a NEW ISSUE I was not having before -- it is absolutely draining my battery. I can usually get through a day with about 75% of my battery power remaining. Today I've gone through 90% and I've done nothing special with it.

Come on, Apple! I know you guys have to be reading these posts. You are driving your loyal fan base away. I'm ready to get my money back and switch to Android. The time (hours-and-hours spent trying to debug my problems) and money do not seem worth it any more.

I upgraded to the IOS 6.0.2 when it was released and didnt notice anything at first - but in the last day or so my battery life on the iphone 5 has plummeted! It dropped from 100% to 91% in about 2 minutes and all I did was read my emails! Usually at the end of the day it is at about 60% with a days reasonably heavy use. Now after 4 hours it is down to 28%!

I have an ipad mini and it has not been affected and the battery life is great on that.

I updated to this new software yesterday. I normally have 40%+ battery life at the end of a work day. Checking E-mails, facebook, playing music ect... with the new update I took it off the charger at 7:30am and it is 2:12 now. I have 28% left. I check it at 1:30pm and I had 36%. It has been in sleep mode since then and I have lost 8% in less than an hour. What the heck is going on. Is there a way to uninstall the new update. I had no issues before and now it ***** like out of my device.

Well, this is interesting. I reported, like some of the others here that after update to 6.0.2 my battery, which had been well behaved started to discharge rapidly and as many reported the battery got quite warm.

My phone ran flat a couple of times and that did not clear the battery drain.

Yet, today, inexplicably it seems as though my battery is "normal" again. So... I am suspicious that perhaps 6.0.2 caused some kind of re-index of everything on my phone and until this process was complete my battery was being burned up.

So far today I've been out and about, used my phone a bit and had a 20 minute phone call on it. Six hours after disconnecting it from the charger it is still showing 80%.

I'm not 100% convinced it's "fixed" but it's almost like something reset and it is back to behaving again.

I've been having this exact same issue after upgrading from 6.0.1 to 6.0.2 on my iPhone 5. I called Apple Support, and they fixed it for me. Here are the steps:

Solution:

This is what Apple Support told me to do:

  1. Close all of my apps (using the app switcher; double tap home, press and hold an icon, click the red close button)
  2. Go to Settings -> General -> Reset -> Reset All Settings. (Does NOT delete apps or any data; just resets network/iOS settings)
  3. Wait for phone to restart.
  4. Charge it up to 100% and monitor.

After doing this, my iPhone 5 with 6.0.2 has been working perfectly and battery levels are great (12 hours of standby only uses 1%).
