Yeah weirdly they play ok in iPhoto. I tried reorganising them in a new folder and again the most recent 3 out of 21 moives will drag into timeline and event browser. Looking through the info on the video there is no difference in file type or resolution, they were taken from the same camera via the same method. The only thing that I can think may have changed in that time is that I moved over from my iMac to MBP via time machine backup.
The videos will play when I preview them in the browser, but unlike the latest 3 videos which play instantly these ones will take about 3-5 seconds to start.
Repaired permissions and all that kind of stuff, there seems to be a disconnect going on somewhere along the line though I'm not sure what's changed. Like I said the files are no different from each other and exist within the same library. The screenshot below shows what's happening, at the top is a working file being dragged in compared to an earlier file. Cursor has dissappeared due to screenshot.
HERE IS HOW TO DO IT. IT"S A PAIN.
Make sure you have your event library visible (normally left upper part of screen)
Right click a disc/source.
Choose 'new event.'
Rename your newly created event if you like. I call all of mine "Harold" in order to satisfy my masochistic tendencies. You may wish to choose a name that has something to do with the event you're importing.
Click on that little camera icon over to the right of the screen. Either click on 'iPhoto' to see all your iPhoto photos AND VIDEOS, or click 'Events' if the clips you want to import are in a particular event you will rercognise.
Select the clips. Use cmd+left click to select multiple. Usual stuff.
Drag them over to "Harold" or "Day out with family 29th July" depending on how sensible you are. Whatever. It's the Event in the Event Library you created earlier.
Robert is the secret brother of your mother that the family keeps in the atic and never mentions.*
This works. I did it. I might be drunk, so you have no excuse.**
Enjoy.
*Bob's your uncle.
** There is no might about it.
I have the same problem where they wont drag across from iphoto library in bottom right, over to the time line... nor will they drag up to the new events as described by the other user
What is they?
"they" being the video clips that are located in iphoto library.... wont drag to the timeline, or events in top right.
Video clips in iPhoto may very well be in a format that's not accepted in FCP. Video clips should never be imported from iPhoto only into FCP directly. It's called the Photo Browser. It's for importing photos not video files.
That is what I was looking for. I had seen it previously but forgot. Not super intuitive, as funny as that sounds because it is a camera icon. I was trying to bring videos from the Photo app into the Libraries and really they is treated as media assets like iTunes tracks.
Bob IS my uncle. Thank you.
