apps for ios 4.2.1

I have bought two of my children second hand ipods, 2g i beleive (but vwere advertised as 3g) for xmas (last of the big spenders i know but in my defense i do have 6 kids!) only to discover that no apps appear to work with them. they are thoroughly disapointed, as am i, but surely there must be some still available that will work? is there a list anywhere of compatible apps for ios 4.2.1?

all i can find on the www is to get apps the ipod must be jailbroken and im not brave enough to attempt that!

hope somewone can help, many thanks in advance, carol

I now own a used iphone 3g running ios 4.2.1, and I have encountered the same problem. So far, the only apps that I have found to be compatible with ios 4.2.1 are:

Angry Birds (game)

Infinite SMS (texting program)

RL Classic (bar code scanner)

Farlex Dictionary (general use dictionary)

I have found these apps by trial and error. These are the only ones that I have tried that didn't tell me I didn't have a new enough ios.

Maybe other people can add to this list.

I found many more compatible apps today. Here are some of the ones I found:

Video games:

Pac-Man lite

Breakout

InfinityLite (like Space Invaders)

TacTacFree (Tic-Tac-Toe)

Checkers (Evertap version worked)

Touch4 (like Connect 4)

Solitare (Walkthrough Publications version worked)

Air Hockey

ScrabbleBlast (similar to Scrabble)

Other apps:

Pandora Radio

Flashlight (turns your device into a flashlight)

Google Translate (helpful for foreign language homework)

WiFi Finder

I don't have any more time to look for apps, but I think you could find plenty of apps if you spent some time looking. I would greatly appreciate it if you would post the ones you found. I think many people might be interested in knowing what is still available for this older ios.

Here are a few more:

Opera Mini

Audio.books (Dysoft)

Optime games--Spades Free, Hearts Free, Backgammon, Move it!, Hangman, FourFree (several others, but these were to ones that interested me). Do a search for Optime, and a list of all their games should come up. All I tried worked with 4.2.1

Free Wifi Locator (Universal Ideas)

Gin Rummy Free (Playhaven)

Reader Lite

Piano Sharp

I hope people will keep adding to the list. I bought an older used iPod Touch a couple of days ago and was shocked how few apps are available.

I also have the same problem

How to tell apple about this problem

I have deleted an old game accidentally which was already installed in my ipodtouch

I updated all my games in itunes (long back)

Now when i am trying to install that game from itunes it shows require newer version to run this game

"Can we get a particular game in an older version which will run in my ipod (i,e 2nd generation)?"

" Sorting of apps or games compatible to 2nd generation ipod touch in the store!!!"

Its becoming antic piece nowadays, please help / reply on the comments in "" above...

seriously my ipod is becoming useless when it comes to apps and games.
