apps for ios 4.2.1

I have bought two of my children second hand ipods, 2g i beleive (but vwere advertised as 3g) for xmas (last of the big spenders i know but in my defense i do have 6 kids!) only to discover that no apps appear to work with them. they are thoroughly disapointed, as am i, but surely there must be some still available that will work? is there a list anywhere of compatible apps for ios 4.2.1?

all i can find on the www is to get apps the ipod must be jailbroken and im not brave enough to attempt that!

hope somewone can help, many thanks in advance, carol

I was just about to post this news as well.

Great move on Apple's part.

Of course, it was their poor design in iTunes that removed the apps I have *paid for* on my older device while syncing. I see this as Apple backtracking and fixing what they themselves originally broke.

In any case, my Touch 2nd Gen has new life again. Thanks for posting!

houdgard wrote, "At this point a newer device would resolve the problem." My only question is, but for how long? 5 years, 3 years, or only 1 year ... I can absolutely see no safe reason to spend hundreds of dollars on a new iphone, considering the obvious planned obsolescence. Since Steve Jobs death, I can notes dozens of new examples of this. Apple, remember that the economy is hurting, and people don't have the same amount of dispossable income.

What greenmind says is true. Their desktop platform doesn't even come close to the obsolescence of their mobile platform. The transitions of MacOS as well as their processor platforms were inconvenient, but they at least made an effort to extend the life of the older generation platforms (68k emulation, OS 9 Classic within OS X, Rosetta, etc).

iOS is a whole different beast. Apple is obviously betting on people to upgrade their devices. They are obsolete in just a matter of years. The economy is still in the toilet, and Apple is beginning to understand this. They are losing marketshare. Low-cost buyers aren't interested in Apple products because they are too expensive. The iPhone 5C was the obvious response to this. This also explains why they are still manufacturing the 4S, as well as the iPad 2.

Hey, I know there are many other helpful posts, but for anybody else who is having this truoble (like I did), after several days of searching for it, I found a link with a list of apps for each ios update. Here's the link: https://sites.google.com/site/appleclubfhs/support/advice-and-articles/finding-a pps-for-older-devices - I hope this helps whoever needs it 🙂 , mimat1
