In the footer of my document, where it shows Page 1 of 16, on the pages which have double digits the numbers are pushed together and not spaced properly. Any advice?

It is hard to replicate the problem and give advise if you don't give us some information on how you inserted the numbers, fonts etc.
I imported a document created in Word as I work on a Mac. The document has a table in the footer which included already populated page numbers, 1 of 16, etc.

Pages does sometimes have difficulty translating page numbering properly. Best to eliminate the Word page numbers and do them again in Pages.

I figured I might need to do that, Jerry....I have redone the table in the footer and notice that the automatic page numbers do not give me the option to show Page 1 of 16, etc...any pointers on how to accomplish that.

Menu > Insert > Page Number > "of" > Page Count

Thanks Peter, when I follow this tree, Menu > Insert > Page Number > I click Page Number and then a page number is inserted, no further options are given...
Any ideas?

They are both in the same menu. Page Count is just under Page Number.

I selected Page Count and got the total number of pages...for instance it just entered "11"
Isn't that what you wanted "Page 1 of 16", or in your case "Page 1 of 11" because there are only 11 pages?
You are inserting both the Page Number and Page Count in order?

Yes, I want it to say Page 2 of 11 for instance. What is showing when I select page count is just '11'.
It's a simple concept.
Page Number inserts the page's number.
Page Count inserts the total number of pages. Type the word "of" or whatever you want between them.

The "Automatic Page Numbers" feature is often not the most efficient way to get the job done. Sometimes the manual approach is better than the automatic approach. Just insert the Page Number and the Page Count and format things yourself.

What is the reason for using a table in the footer?
Just use Insert > Pages number. I wouldn't use Automatic Page Number, esp. not in a table as that doesn't work.
It's for a Policy and Procedures Manual so in the footer is the name of the person who originated the policy, the name of the person who approved the policy, the date the policy was approved and the page of total pages number.
Each Section can have its own Header and Footer. They can be different also for the first page of the section and left and right pages in Facing Pages.
You can insert dates, File names etc. as well as the Page Number and Page Count.
None of those need a table, I can't see what purpose the table serves.
