How to uninstall genieo fro iMac?

Before the first step in the instructions, the site you recommended offers "Malwarebytes" as an option for automatic removal but they don't go into much detail. Are you familiar with this software? Any reason why it wouldn't work?

The owner of TheSafeMac web site is thomas_r. who is a frequent contributor here on a broad range of OS X malware topics, including this discussion. When manual means became more complex and adware more prolific, he developed an Applescript to automate removal called the Adware Removal Tool. Eventually even that wasn't powerful enough, so AdwareMedic was the result. I assisted in testing both and never had nor read of any adverse effects of using either of these by hundreds of users both here in the ASC and several e-mail lists I participate in.

MalwareBytes apparently made Thomas a offer he couldn't refuse, so AdwareMedic became Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for Mac. The signature database is updated as often as necessary to keep up with the ever changing world of adware along with a modest collection of other malware types. The app itself received a makeover in the past few days, making it more efficient. Still have not read of any adverse effects and if you should ever run across something new, there's a feed-back mechanism built in that can be used to let Thomas know. I don't know of any automated method that is better than this tool with regard to adware.
