>>the instructions say to delete the Omnibar Safari extension after the restart no?

I believe so, but before or after isn't important for that item.

>>I don't see when is says to delete the User Login portion

You're right, but that wouldn't cause any problems, although you should remove it to avoid confusion.

>>I would rather have a backup with this stuff installed than no backup at all

Absolutely right, again.

I did not find any of the paths you posted, so ergo I did not remove any files.

HOWEVER I do still have the one file I mentioned sitting in my LaunchServices

which I CANNOT remove.

If this file is actually in LaunchServices, then it would appear that something new is going on. Is the full path: /Library/LaunchServices/com.genieoinnovation.mac.extension.client.plist (the ".plist" extension may be hidden to you)?

Why can't you remove it? If you are logged in as admin then you should be able to authenticate moving it to the trash. What do you see that indicates it can't be removed?

Are you actually seeing this file in a folder called LaunchServices? Or do you mean LaunchAgents?

That file should be in the "/Library/LaunchAgents/" folder. This is not the Library folder in your user folder, it is the one at the root level of your hard drive. If it is not there, then perhaps Sophos has moved it to some quarantine folder. Where does Sophos say the file is?

You may still have the install disk image mounted, since there's a folder & file with those names inside it. Or it could be that somehow, the other items were removed, leaving this one inside Application.app

Sophos should show exactly where it is... but if not, use http://apps.tempel.org/FindAnyFile/ & search for the word genieo on all disks , which should pick that up wherever it is. You can right (ctrl) click on the com.genieo... result & choose 'reveal in Finder'

Hi Thomas R,

I have a similar problem to the above. I followed the safe mac guide successfully until I got to the final file in step 3. When I sent this file to the trash it got stuck. I have tried to stop this process but it just says that it is stopping.

I can't shut down my computer and everything is slowly not working, while it is still trying to send this file to the trash.

I have read the section on "recovering a computer that cannot start up" but not sure if I am at this stage yet.

I would really appreciate some help.

Thank you

Did you find and remove the launchd.conf file before deleting that one? If not, that's your problem... your system has frozen, and the computer will not be able to start back up. You'll need to follow those recovery instructions.

On the other hand, if you removed the launchd.conf file, but didn't restart the computer in step 2a, then the machine has crashed, but you'll be able to restart just fine.
